Intussuscepted loop of small bowel???
Pam, I haven't written in a long time and something told me to go onto the site tonight. I'm a nurse. Intussusception is a condition wherein a loop of small bowel folds over itself, causing the terrible pain you describe. It is a form of bowel obstruction. Think of a garden hose that's kinked, how thin the trickle of water becomes. That's why your stool is so narrow. Don't let them get away with dismissing this. If you have any more of that kind of severe pain, you get yourself to the ER or your doctor or SOMETHING and let them have it. With children, sometimes they give an enema, because the force of the water will unkink the loop of bowel. I haven't seen enough of these in the recent past to know how they are treating adults these days. (Haven't worked in the ER for about 5 years).
Tell you what, check into: www.webmd.com
Type in "intussusception". It gives a lot of information. I would print it out and take it to the ER if you have to.
Good luck, Pam

Sharon,
I'm glad you checked-in! That makes perfect sense what you described with the garden hose. My stool is still like that too. Hmmmmm what you say about the children with an enema makes me think....
I was in a lot of pain...despite being on morephine. Then I had to drink a pitcher of crystal light with gastrograph stuff in it. I had to get the entire pitcher in me in less than an hour. By the time I was down to the last styrofoam cup of that stuff - I was beside myself - in the most severe pain - unconsolable. I never did finish that last cup. I was wheeled down to the MRI balled up and bawling the entire way. I didn't even see the faces of the people around me or talking to me. It was about an hour or so afterwards that the spasms and pain began to back off. I'm just wondering if having my bowels basically water loaded was enough to unkink me enough to get some relief. That really makes me wonder....
I'm really anxious to get this behind me. I'm down to a steady 2-3 on the pain scale. Bloated...but passing just enough stool I think to keep things toned down. I'm just hanging in until Monday. I WILL take your advice, though, and print out the info from WebMD just in case.
Thanks, Sharon.
