Low Iron!

Well, I got my PAT's back from the plastic surgeon and he says I am still low in my hemoglobin! Now I have done my research, but have no experience with this! I don't know whether it is the low iron or the b12 causing the low iron that is the problem. I also found out that tea and coffee are iron absorption inhibitors, which I did not know and drink tons of tea a day. I wonder if it is the caffeine in these items that is the problem or the drink itself, anyone know? Well, today I go to the hemotologist and see if he wants to give me iron infusion for my surgery coming up. I do not want them to put it off! I have waited forever for this and waiting would send me into such a depression! Well maybe they can fix me up and I won't be so tired and cold all of the time. I am freezing constantly and have NO energy. I can manage to get through stuff, but it is hard on me. My work weekends (every two weeks third shift for 4 days) about kill me! It takes me a week to recover and by that time I have to go back to work!! Any advice or ideas would be helpful. Wendy

Hi Wendy! I am no expert and don't know about this iron stuff and B12, I am sorry to hear that your iron levels are low. So now you have to wait and up your iron level before you can have ps. Right?? I hope the iron infusions resolve this and you can go ahead with the plastic surgery as scheduled. I know it sucks! Your symptoms are probably related to the low iron. I worked the third shift and hated it. I felt like I was in the twilight zone and for health reasons, I had to get off the night shift. I don' know about the caffeine in tea or coffee. But there is caffeine in a lot of foods too. I guess if you drink a lot of it, it would have an impact on the iron absorption. Good luck with your hematologist appointment. Let us know how that went and how you are doing. Love, Lucy

Hey Wendy~ Sorry to hear about the issues with iron. I don't know anything about it medically speaking, so I can't offer any tidbits of advice. Just wanted you to know that I was thinking of you. Hope the infusions help and your ps will be a piece of cake. I know how long you've been waiting for it! Blessings, Kerri
