Hi Shelley~ I NEVER thought I would do a 1/2 marathon~ not in a million years when I started my first 5K last February. I did the Race for the Cure 5K. It was so much fun to walk it, that I decided to do another one. After the second 5K, I thought it would be a great accomplishment to do a 10K. We mapped it out, and spent a couple of months training for it. Eventually, I just thought it would be very cool to do the 1/2, although I have no plans right now to do a marathon. We'll see what the future brings. Thanks for the encouragement!!! Hugs, Kerri

Thanks Carla~ You've done great yourself! I'm thinking that we ought to do a Junebug walk~ someplace in the middle of America. I don't know~ maybe I'm crazy. But I sure think it would be fun to meet everyone and do something positive! Hugs, Kerri

Kerri, CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I just read your post from before the weekend - I haven't been on here since Thursday night... but as soon as I saw it, I had NO DOUBT whatsoever that you would succeed!! You are so driven and motivated. You've worked hard for this. Wow, it must have felt incredible to cross that finish line and have your parents there cheering you on. That is just awesome. I was so psyched and happy for you when I read this post that I had to reply right away - so i'm gonna go check out your pics now!! I'm so proud of you!!! Hugs, Pam

Okay, just checked out your profile. GREAT PICS!!! You look so good!!! I probably would have looked more like the person struggling behind you... IF I had even MADE it to the finish line!! What's a GU pack? I totally understand the disappointment in the ipod not working. I could *feel* your pain as I read that. Hee-hee... PALM TREEs!!!!! I've only seen them in person at the Botanical Gardens (an indoor place) in Washington, D.C. and I think I saw one at the National Aquarium in Baltimore. So cool! Hugs, Pam

Hi Pam~ It's so good to see ya back on again. I'm sorry that you've been in such pain. Hopefully you're feeling better now. Yes, it was a tremendous pain in the toosh that my ipod went out. I was soooo ticked!! I even have a "Kerri's Racing Music" playlist with all of my fun and funky songs on it. I needed a little Bon Jovi~ It's My Life as I was walking! A Gu pack is a small pack of energy gel that they sell at sporting goods stores. Gu is the name brand, but there's Power Bar gels and other name brands. You can get those anywhere~ even at Wal Mart! It's pure carbs that you take when you've done over an hour of hard training. I should have started at about 5, but didn't. I waited until my body told me I needed it at around mile 7, which was too late. It couldn't kick in in the way in needed to to give me the energy burst and not be hurting. Even the second one at mile 9.6 didn't help. That's why I was in such pain by mile 12. My body was burning my muscle as food, not my carbs or protein. Oh well, I took a REALLY big protein drink a few hours later, after lunch and that helped. My legs and everything (except my ankles and blisters on the bottom of my feet) are almost back to normal today. What a funny thing about the palm tree!!!! I don't give them a second thought here in CA. Actually, I don't like them very much. My house is in a very warm area and everyone uses different types of palms in their backyards. I stick with evergreen trees and my roses! I am an Oregon girl to the core!! Hugs, Kerri
