1 year blood work...
Hi all~ Just wanted to update ya. I received my bloodwork yesterday from my surgeon and all is excellent. Every aspect is in the normal range. I am incredibly grateful for that!
A question, though, for you all? Up until the last 2 weeks when I've had a house full of 9 people for a family reunion, I hadn't had hardly any carbs or sugar. No crackers, chips of any kind, regular candy, etc. I had only lost between 3-4 lbs. for the whole month. I weighed in at about 186-187 for my 13 month weigh in.
Then, within these last couple of weeks, I have indulged in all of those while preparing things for the reunion. (We were responsible for appetizers- sweet and sour meatballs, shrimp with cream cheese, buffalo chix hot dip, and a gazillion types of other dips, not to mention caramel dipped pretzels rolled in pecans and drizzled with 2 types of chocolate. These were my downfall!! )
I not only maintained my weight, I lost an additional 3 lbs. I've done less exercise than normal and haven't eaten properly. Has anyone else encountered this? I know that when I am eating right, I'm taking in enough calories and protein. This has just stumped me, though. Did anyone else lose after mixing things up some?
Now that everyone has finally left, I'm going back to being "good", but this has really confused me. Let me know what you all think.
No matter what, I'm thrilled with the weight loss so far. I still hope to make it to the 150's, but that may have to wait until after ps.
Hugs,
Kerri
I have said this all along Kerri. I do this once in awhile on purpose and it never fails to kick in my metabolism. But we have to be careful! That fudge was so good last week and all, but now I have a bit of the flu and don't even want anything but liquids. LOL! So we'll see. I did get back on track on my own first though, so I am proud of that.
I think our bodies definitely go into starvation mode and need a boost every now and then. Just make sure you can control it when you do it.
Wendy
Hi Wendy~ I think you're right. It seems like everytime I break out of my normal eating patterns and eat more, like at Christmas or when I'm at home, it seems to kick in my weight loss again. I guess I just am confused because I know that my normal caloric intake is between 1100 and 1600 daily. Maybe it's just adding back in carbs, or mixing things up that's the reason.
Thanks for your imput. I will definitely be back on track now. I don't want anything to derail what I've done so far. Plus, I still have about 32 lbs. to go to be where I want.
Have a great day!!
Hugs,
Kerri
Kerri, you are making me hungry!! I love those things too.....
I can't relate to what you've been going through as far as eating more and losing. All I know is that my weight loss the past two months as been pretty non-existent. But I have such an appetite. I want to eat anything that is not nailed down (before my surgery).
I can't figure my weight loss either, with gaining 10 pounds after surgery and then in a few days dropping 18 pounds. My body is doing flip-flops and is going to lose the rest of the weight when it wants to. I know that I have to just hang in there and not get too ****y with my weight loss. It is easier said than done.
Hugs,
Lucy
Hi Lucy~ Yeah, I kind of thought about it after I posted that I probably shouldn't have listed lots of food that could be a temptation for everyone. Oops!! My weight loss, too has been so frustratingly slow, that I was afraid I was completely done. Maybe I still have a prayer of making it, huh?
It doesn't surprise me at all about you gaining the 10 lbs. then dropping 18. Your body has been traumatized, and every time you have surgery, you have a lot of fluid retention. Of course, you work in a hospital, right? So I'm sure I'm not telling you anything you don't already know. I gained about 5-7 lbs. after WLS that took a few days to lose, and I couldn't eat anything.
Hope both of our journeys will just keep on. Aren't we blessed? Thanks for your words of encouragement and the support that you are on this board.
Have a wonderful day,
Kerri
Hi Kerri
I think it's changing things up. When I'm exercising intensely, like this week, I need more carbs, especially if my calories are low. When I'm taking it "easy" I can cut back on carbs and loose. I just try to do different stuff. I've been stuck at 166 for awhile and am still hoping to get 6 lbs off before 8/25.
Sharyn
Hi Sharyn~ Thanks for the response. You know, there are times I just get so frustrated because you think you're doing everything right, and you don't lose. Then you loosen up a bit and it drops! Go figure!
Hey, what are you doing for intense exercise? I'm still trying to prep for my first 1/2 marathon. I am going to try to do 9 miles tonight. I can't run yet, but I'm bound and determined to be able to fini**** in the 4 hour requirement.
Congratulations on being at 166!!! That's wonderful!
Hugs,
Kerri
WOW Kerri!! A 1/2 marathon! You're awesome!!! I'm not doing anything that big. When I'm in intense mode, I workout 5-6 times a week. 2, 1 hour sessions with my personal trainer. And for my cardio days, I do a 40 minute hill workout on the treadmill and I jog the plateaus. I walk at 3.2 MPH (short legs) and jog at 4.5 mph. Then I bike for 20 minutes. If it's a weekend and I'm not under time constrains, then I also swim 1/2 mile. Before the hernia started acting up I was about to start training for a triathlon. Now it will have to wait until next year - maybe longer. It just depends upon when the 2ndd stage of my plastics will be. I guess I should switch to walking more since that's all I'll be able to do during recovery.
Good luck w/your 1/2 marathon!!
Sharyn
Boy, oh boy Sharyn!!!! I get tired just reading your workout! I can't jog at all~ let alone at a 4.5 mph! Good for you!
Doing a triathalon would be absolutely amazing! I can't even imagine. It would be an unbelievable accomplishment. When do you go in for your next round of ps? I think you should jog/ run for as long as your body allows you to do it. A personal trainer is definitely the way to go. I don't have one yet, but I know that I would benefit from one.
Please keep me posted about your journey. It is really inspiring, and very motivational!
Congrats!
Kerri
Gee Kerri I never thought of myself as being inspirational. I'm really not that deep. I don't have a HUGE goal, I just want to look sexy.
The 1st round of plastics will be 8/25 and I don't know when the 2nd round will be. But I will keep you posted.
I almost forgot, congrats on your 1 yeaar labs!! I had to add a B1 supplement. It wasn't low, but it was dipping.
Lots of love
Sharyn
