I was back in the hospital again!

Hi everyone! I landed up back in the hospital last Friday night. I went to the ER because I was having a lot of pain and it looked like I had a bulging out of my abdomen just above the repaired hernia site. This hospitalization was a nightmare from beginning to end. I had so many blood tests and special xray exams. I was on IV's the entire time I was there. I was taking IV morphine for the pain, that only took the edge off the pain. I spiked a fever of 101.7 on the weekend. I found out that my gallbladder has a lot of stones. I only had one stone pre lap RNY. It's not inflammed so nothing was done except for a soft low fat diet. My white blood cell count was high so they were worried about an abscess. That was ruled out by CAT scan of which I had two, thank you very much. Had to drink barium for the contrast study. Yuk. Today I came home. I was told that there was some inflammation and probably a subacute infection around the hernia area. It is resolving with antibiotics. The distressing thing too was that when I was admitted, they weighed me and I was 10 pounds heavier. Today I weighed myself at the hospital and lost that 10 pounds plus another 8. So I lost 18 pounds since Friday night. I was so upset about the gain. But it came off and some more to boot! I still have my drain in and that will be taken out on Monday. I am so sick and tired of hospitals... Thanks everyone for your well wishes in my previous post. I hope this is it for me and that I'm on the mend. Hugs, Lucy 484.8/383.4/184.4 WOOHOO, 199 pounds gone.

OH LUCY sorry to hear you had to go to the ER.... BEST wishes for a speedy recovery of the infection. I know wound infections can be painful and yucky I had one after my c section. GLAD your home. AND never alarm about a gain after any hospitol stay...they do pump you up with tons of IV fluids..... keep well and keep us informed.

Hi Lisa. I can say that I feel a lot better today. Love your new picture! You look fabulous!!! I am thankful that it was localized and there was no drainage. I think the inflammation and retention of fluids in my abdomen caused my weight gain. I am no longer retaining fluids in my abdomen as my clothes are so much looser. I couldn't help being depressed about the temporary weight gain. As you know, we are all trying so hard to lose weight and get to goal. So when I had this gain, of course it really bothered me. I want to get to goal so much! I am gaining my strength now so I'll be back to myself in no time. Thanks for the well wishes and response. Hope you are feeling better too! Hugs, Lucy

Hi Lucy, I am glad that you are home and feeling a little better. Hospitals stink. It is much nicer to be home in your own jamies and bed. Congrats on the weight loss even if it was the hard way. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Lynn

Hi Lynn. I sure appreciate my own jammies and bed. After losing so much weight, I have been feeling bones that I haven't felt since I was a kid. Those hospital beds are so uncomfortable and my newfounded bones ached so much. I had to have a HIDA scan and lay down for an hour on my back. My tailbone hurted so much, I cried and asked for a pillow for under my butt. My shoulder bones ached and my hips bones ached. I ached all over. It was so good to sleep in my own bed and lie down on my sofa. So comfortable! I got a lot of rest yesterday and had a lot of energy this morning. I did take a nap this afternoon. Thanks for your prayers. I sure do need them! Lucy

Your just going through the wringer lately aren't you? Poor baby! I hope this is the end for you as far as hospitals and such for awhile. Give your body time to adjust to the damage before you start pushing yourself again. Prayers and lots of love, Wendy

Hi Wendy. Yes, I've been through the wringer in the past two weeks. Before that. it was my job. That hasn't changed, except that my boss knows now that he had impossible expectations of me and the volume of work I had. I was so far behind in my work and had no resources to catch up. It really took a toll on me physically and mentally. That's why I've been struggling with my weight the past two months. I started grazing and eating the wrong foods. My boss was told by another peer of mine who came in and evaluated what had to be done that the workload was for 6 people not 1. So now all of a sudden, I'm getting the help needed to clear up all the backload. It is sad that it had to come to my illness for him to see what I've been telling him all along. Oh well. At least when I go back to work it shouldn't be so bad. My doctors who I work with went to him and told him that I needed help. I am taking the time to recuperate from this surgery and will not jeopardize my health for my job, It's just not worth it. I started looking for a new job and actually had applied for a position the day before my first admission to the hospital. Now I have to get strong and work toward losing the next 14 pounds. My surgeon will complete the hernia repair by inserting a mesh to strengthen my abdomen, so that I don't get a re-occurence of my hernia. I can't wait too long to do this. I plan on having my tummy tuck and lower body lift with the mesh. We are looking at December. At least this time, it will be a planned surgery and one I've been waiting for such a long time... to get rid of my large abdominal girth and hanging skin. Thanks for your prayers!! I need them. Hugs, Lucy

Hi Lucy I'm so sorry you're having so much trouble. I hope you will be feeling great soon. Since I'm getting my hernia fixed, I'm now wondering if I should have an u/s done to check out my gallbladder just to make sure some of my pain isn't associated with the gall bladder. So if nothing else, your post is helping me. Thanks for posting. Sharyn

Hi Sharyn. If I could I would have all my procedures at one time, so that I have only one recuperation period and one time under anesthesia. But I know that is too much for me. So I'm going to stage my procedures in two intervals. First, the bottom half and then the top half. I don't know when I'll have my gallbladder out. Hope all goes well for you. Thanks for your post. Lucy

Don't worry Lucy, I have to do 2 stages too because of the hernia repair. I wish I could have it all done in 1 too.
