HAS ANYONE ELSE BEEN IN THE SAME BOAT LIKE ME??

I just really been bummed lately. Im 13 months out and the weight is really starting to slow down. (times I feel if I am eating too much) I still have about another 60 lbs to lose. All my blood work came back normal. I am getting in all my protein & water. I still work out at the gym. My trainer still tells me that I am gaining muscle. But is so hard to tell with the hanging skin. My stomach/arms/ legs skin is loose. But I don't know how much of that is extra weight. I lost about 117 lbs so far. Yes, I know that is a great accomplishment but I feel I should be doing more. Im trying so hard not to "sympathy" eat. (eating when I feel blue, eating when I'm bored, etc) I really want to win the battle of the fat. I don't want to lose at this. I want to be a winner! I don't want to stretch out my pouch. I came too far to go back to my old ways. What can I do to get out of this funk? I just feel sad anymore seeing everyone else succeeding and im at a standstill. I know everyone else is different but at times it just don't feel this way. Thanks for letting me vent. Dawn

Hi Dawn~ You are not alone!! I think we are all going through this, at least those of us who have a ways still to go. Hang in there. Your body is probably shifting, especially if you are getting all of your protein and water in, and working out. Good for you!! Emotional eating is what got us heavy in the first place. Fight it, fight it, fight it!!! You can win this battle, just hang in there! Try not to compare yourself to others, although I am so guilty of this as well. Stay positive and just determine that you will continue your course no matter what the scales say. And, muscle DOES weigh more than fat~ you'll never regret working out. You're doing great. We all just need to recommit to this journey now that the going is getting harder. Hugs, Kerri

Congrats on the great job so far Dawn!!! Next make sure you are eating enough, from Feb-May I lost maybe a pound a month. Remember all those old diets where you lost for a month or two then your body said HEY, no more, your starving me. Then I moved and my schedule was messed up. So I got really serious about my protein. Do a drink on the way to work, have a bar for break, eat a high protein lunch, have another drink on the way home and a high protein dinner and all of a sudden dropped 7 pounds since the end of May. Also, remember the rate of loss will be slower since your excess weight is less now. Continued success 5'6" HW 250 tight size 24 jeans SW 235 CW 157 size 6 jeans Surgeon GW 165 Mine 154?? Hi Dawn If you need verification of your muscles, have your body fat percentage done. That will give you a better idea of where you stand, especially if you're muscular. If I went by BMI I would still have 50 lbs to loose. But, going by body fat %, I have about 20 to 30 to loose (and that's at 20% bodyfat which is in the athletic range). My plastic surgeon says I have about 20 in skin. And, try the plateau buster - it works. Sharyn 307/166/148

Be glad you're losing at all!! I want to lose 25-35 more and actually gained 9 lbs.in the last 2 months. So. . . I'm now dieting! I only eat half of what I want. At least I still don't get hungry, I just don't get full as fast as I used to. I'm getting between 1200 and 1500 calories per day and have lost all but 4 of the 9 lbs. in the last 2 weeks. I never thought at 1 year post surgery, I'd be dieting. But, I am not going back to my pre-WLS weight!! I'm not going to screw this up!! Becky lap rny/6-22-05 281/193/165

I am in what sounds like the exact same boat. Even as far as how much i have lost and how much i still want to lose. I know exactly what you are talking about. Although i have not been very good about my protein. So i am starting that up again. Hopefully that will help. I am a big emotional eater as well and i am worrying that is undoing me. Also the eating too much thing is possible again and i have to watch that. I think i am drinking with meals now and i never did before. I think i am noticing that flush my food out and i am hungrier faster. Or maybe my brain is just hungrier. Good Luck. Paula

Yes! I'm afraid we're in the same boat. I'm 13 months out and have lost a total of 100lb. and would like to lose 30more. I think the body starts to fight it at some point and it gets harder. I also know I need to work out more and watch what I'm eating closer. I just don't want the "Honeymoon Phase" to be over. I could do anything and still lose wt for the first twelve months. Doesn't seem that way anymore. We just have to push on and look at how far we've come since surgery and not beat ourselves up. Good luck to you. Kim K

Dawn, I couldn't have said it any better myself. I am going through exactly the same things you are. I think I have gotten bored with food and I am looking for something but not sure what it is. I have the hanging skin and want to say I am building muscle, but I dont see it either. I made an appointment with a plastic surgeon to get his view on how much he thinks is fat and how much is muscle. Hopefully he will have some good news for me. I still have 60lbs to loose but haven't lost a pound in over a month. I am really struggling with 191. I just can't seem to break into the 180's. Don't ever feel alone. There are many of us here that have not lost as fast as others and I think we do not post enough because we feel as if we are failing compared to the "fast loosers". We all need to post more and support each other more. HUGS~ Shelley

Hi Dawn, I'll tell ya, trying to lose the last 40 pounds or so sometimes feels impossible. The one year honeymoon phase just wasn't long enough when starting out at such a large weight - 340 for me. I have been so incredibly lucky to have lost what I have so far considering that I don't exercise very often. The honeymoon is definitly over for me. I think people that go to the gym may weigh more but are able to wear smaller sizes and look better. I'm 5'5" and weigh 173. I'm still in a size 16 pants compared to others that are getting into 12's at the same weight. I really do think/know that exercise is the key so don't give up. It sounds like you are doing the right things. Dawn

I am right there with ya!! Hey I know it is hard, but we can do this. I have been hovering in the 220's for a couple of months now and it is driving me crazy! I wanted to be in onederland by my 1 year mark, but nope! Oh well, though. I figure I need to be a little more compliant with the exdersize to kick up the metabolism so you are on the right track. Definitely up the protein and water and see what happens. Good luck. Wendy
