Hysterectomy and Tummy Tuck

Hey Everybody, I've been having a time the last few weeks...first I started having really bad upper adominal pain, not my GB, that was taken in January...so had to have a CT scan. The CT scan didn't show a reason for my pain...it comes and goes, mostly gone...we're watching and waiting on that one...but it did show a large (orange sized) fibroid in my uterus. I took the results to my gyn who did an evaluation on my yesterday. We decided to do a total hysterectomy...I'm 44, no more babies for me!!! I talked to him about having a tummy tuck at the same time, he thought that was a great plan since my insurance will be paying for everything except my plastic surgeon's fee...so next Friday I have an appointment with Dr. Dunagan for a consult...I've also called Dr. Knowling's office for an appointment to compare. I don't know if we can swing even that amount, we'll just have to see what they say they will charge me... Anyway, I'm tired of having major surgery every six months...RNY 6/20/05, GB with internal hernia repair 1/27/06 and now this...at least this time I have the hope of the tummy tuck to make me feel good about it...that and getting that "thing" out of me! Yuck! Hope you all have a good day! Cindy 234/143/134

My wife had a problem with fibroids that was causing her to have a lot of pain monthly. She had a hysterectomy last October and is very happy with the results. In her case she was 39, and one of her ovaries was not having any problems so they left it alone. Everything else is gone. We decided that we did not want any more babies many years ago, so that was no biggie (and she is thrilled to be off of the pill). I just got back from an appointment with my surgeon regarding my hernia repair, and he is ready to rock. I have spoken to a plastic surgeon about doing the TT at the same time, but my insurance will not even consider covering that for another 6 months (18 months after the WLS). Anyway, I am curious what the your plastic surgeons told you his fee would be. BTW - My wifes recovery from her operation took just about as long as my recovery from my open RNY (sorry). Best Wishes, Jim

Hey Jim, Thanks for the info! I was expecting the recovery to be 4-6 weeks...if I can tack the TT on with it, that's onle less recovery time to have to deal with as well. I'm curious to learn what the fee would be too...my gyn seems to think that by doing it at the same time, I'll save lots of money, since all that other stuff will be covered. C

Good luck Cindy! I think it makes sense, since you will be having all your anesthetics and such covered anyway. Hopefully this will straighten you out and you can get on with living your new life. Wendy

Hi Cindy~ Sorry to hear about your upcoming surgery. That stinks to have had so many back to back surgeries! But, the bright side is the tummy tuck. It would have been incredibly more expensive if you were to do the tummy tuck on it's own. Keep us informed of when you have your hysterectomy scheduled. And, congratulations on your wonderful achievement with your weight loss. That's awesome! Hugs, Kerri

Hi Kerri! It is disappointing to have to have another surgery, but if I can get the TT I won't feel bad about it at all! I don't mourn the loss of my uterus at all either! Thanks for the compliments, I'm so happy with my new body, sags and all! C

It is funny you mentioned this, cuz they have a doctor advertising out here on billboards "get a tummy tuck w/ your hysterectomy"... I was like, what! Good luck!
