Sidelined with knee and hip problems
Oh my, oh my! About 10 days ago I had an injection in my right knee for tendonitis, not pleasant, but within a few days it felt just fine. At that same appointment I told my orthopedic that I was having what I thought was groin pain, maybe a pull. On examination he decided to refer me to the hip guy. Well, last Tuesday I saw him and he's pretty sure I have a torn labrum (the same as the cartilige in your knee, but in the hip). I have to have an arthrogram/MRI on 6/12. Then yesterday I was dancing with my neices a few dances during their Dance-A-Thon for Relay for Life. I was fine until I started carrying boxes down the steps. Something popped in my knee and it was excruciating! My knee swelled and going down the stairs is HORRIBLE and PAINFUL. I'm sitting here with an icepack on my knee and I have a call into my friend the orthopedic. Not sure what I did.
Now...to top it all off, the day after I saw the hip doc I had my annual GYN check up. It happened to be a day when I have pelvic pain (once a month). I had a hysterectomy in 1992 but had my ovary conserved. To make a long story short, my ovary is enlarged and it's probably covered with scar tissue again. Looks like it has to come out....and the chances of it laparoscopic are pretty small.
Now...do I have time for any of this?? Not on your life. Relay for Life is this coming weekend and I'm the project chairperson. My future daughter in law's shower is the 17th of June. We leave the 30th for our trip to Europe. When we return our son gets married on 8/5. That is after I have to go to Boston for ACS Ambassor training on 7/29. I also have a wedding to photograph in 8/12. I could go on and on through the end of the year, but you get the message.
On a lighter note, I am very close to finally breaking the 150 mark with my weight. I've now lost 97 lbs since my highest weight and 80 lbs since surgery a year ago. Glad I weigh a lot less now than I did a year ago...these injuries would be so much worse.
Thanks for letting me vent....love to you all.
Debra
Oh Debra!!! You poor thing. It sounds like you tore your meniscus in your knee. Sometimes therapy can fix it so you don't need surgery. Hope that's the case with your knee. I mean, you only have a few things going in your life right now, huh. I'll say prayer or two for you!
But you know, maybe this a way of telling you to slow down a little. You know how things happen like that sometimes to show us something we need to see. Maybe Europe at this time is something you could postpone? You want to be able to walk and enjoy yourself when you go, not hobble around on pain pills.
Take care, I'll be thinking about you.

P.S. Had my hip replacement on 4/14, am doing great at 7 weeks post op. I'm down to 115 pounds and find that it's a little too thin for me. Funny, 7 years ago I was a perfect size at 107 pounds.
Thanks for the prayers.
Our Europe trip has already been paid for (and not by us). We have been waiting almost a year for this trip of a lifetime. I'll manage somehow .
I have a call into my friend whose an orthopedic surgeon to see if it's just the tendonitis acting up.
Thanks for the good thoughts.
Love, Debra
Hi Karri,
We have been looking forward to this trip for almost a year now. In 1993-94 we had an exchange student from Germany. Last year for Cris's 50th Birthday he came an surprised Cris. But the biggest surprise was that he gave Cris and I a trip to Europe. We just had to choose when we wanted to go. So in 24 days 17 hours and 35 minutes (but whose counting) we are on our way to Germany and Italy for three weeks!
I'm sure my knee will be fine. It's feeling a bit better this morning, but I haven't tried the stairs yet .
Thanks again for your kind words.
Debra
Debra,
Ya know I just had a thought for you. Go to a medical supply place or a pharmacy and find one of those fancy pretty canes, and take it with you just in case. I know you will think this is silly, but if you have trouble over there, you may not find what you need when you need it. A cane can be very pretty if you find the right one and will take alot of pressure off of your knee joints when used correctly. Also maybe start yourself on some of that Glucosamine for joints, I hear this helps alot with knee and hip trouble. The ortho doc here recommends it to help heal up joints below the waist.

My schedule was planned before the beginning of last year!! Right through the end of the of the year when we take a Disney Cruise with some good friends (they gave us this cruise with their family as long as I was their photographer). So, yeah....life is GREAT and I love being busy...just don't have time for these other things.
Thanks for your kind words and encouragement..
