In the last year, I have had two lumbar strains. could this be normal from the weight loss? that i can't figure out what i am doing wrong to get this. i guess my body is not use to carrying less weight...LOL it's just a pain that i am on muscle relaxers and tylenol w/codine. i hate feeling sore. i missed 3 days at the gym this week. (so i am bummed about that). when i get off my routine, it is harder to get back on pace.

Dawn, Do you have a large pannicula? (The loose hanging skin on your belly) I have heard that if this hangs around alot, some people begin to have back problems and need to have a tt. This will help get insurance to cover the removal. Darn Huh? LOL! Also I know that since I have lost so much weight I have had joint problems in my shoulders and I am in physical therapy. They told me when you lose large amounts of weight you get what is called sublaxation in your joints. It is caused from the fat that stretched your tendons and ligaments around the bones and when the fat cushion is gone you are all stretchy and loose like a rubber band that has been pulled out too far and won't snap back. The only fix is strengthening the muscles around the area to support the tendons and ligaments. This is probably your problem. I would go see your PCP and ask to get into physical therapy so they can teach you the correct excersizes to do so you don't hurt yourself. Good luck, Wendy

I had leg and back problems due to losing muscle mass from rapid weight loss, so it could be.

Dawn- it's funny you should post this as I have been going through something similar that made me think I was crazy. I had slight back problems (sciatica) before surgery, two attacks in 4 years, and have had 5 attacks since february of this year alone! i figured my body didn't know how to balance or stabalize itself after all the weight lost. I saw a chiropractor yesterday for it as the matter of fact. I am going again today. According to her, I am totally out of alignment since losing the weight. You body gets used to being carried a certain way and then, poof, the weight that stabalized you is gone! Come to find out, the receptionist that was there had WLS 19 months ago and said she went through the same thing. I guess it is more common than I thought! Hope you have a good day and feel better soon!
