Protein

Just curious... in that pouch rules reminder someone posted a while back... it states that our most of our protein should be liquid so we can absorb it. That the solid protein is just better so that we will stay full longer. The 80-100 grams of protein you guys talk about getting in.. is that mostly protein?

Hi Paula, I do 60 g of supplement liquid, and the rest is food. You can supplement more, but it is expensive! I do 30g in the morning and 30g in the evening. I have heard that it is best to take in the AM and right after excersize. This is when your body best absorbs it. I put the chocolate unjury in my coffee with a little cream and splenda and I am not hungry for hours. I try to get a lot of liquids in at this time since I am not eating. The coffee also helps with the constipation problem. It gets things "moving" in the morning. My surgeon said one cup of caffeinated beverage a day was OK as long as you drink lots of liquids. Wendy

Hi Paula. I get all of my protein from solids. Once in a while, I drink the AchievOne drink for breakfast or have the Stallone's high protein pudding - both have 20 grams of protein per serving. My surgeon is more in favor of solid proteins - cheese, chicken, fish, beef, beans, etc. So far it has worked for me. I don't get in 80 or 100 grams of protein a day though. Most of the time I take in 60 grams or just over that mark. I'm having my blood work done in the next two weeks for my year and see how it goes. Take care, Lucy

I do liquid and solid. My liquid usually is in the morning, either alone w/ water, or in my coffee. Good luck!

I still find that ready-to-drink protein is easiest forme in the morning and evening. I can take it to work and it's ready when I am. I have such a hard time getting in enough water/liquid that I kind of rely on RTD protein. At night I make a thick smoothie out of Caribbean Cooler Nectar, plain yogurt, vanilla extract, strawberry puree, 1/2 banana, and water. I get most of my protein (90 to 100 grms) from liquid sources. I don't know if that's good or not. Does anybody else know the answer to this liquid/solid protein question? I'm still losing hair at a dramatic rate, and I know protein intake is directly related to that so my nutritionist said to get at least 90 grams a day. How is your hair loss situation? Sharon

Someone posted a pouch rule thing a while back. And in it is stated that yes we needed to eat solid protein because protein stays in our systems longer than other food. It will make us feel full longer and therefor be better for weight loss. But that because of our surgery... all the bowel they removed... that we could not fully absorb and digest the solid protein. So it said that we needed to make sure to get our minimal intake from liquid to make sure we have enough. My hair loss is doing well. I have really thick hair.. so i just noticed it thin a bit and i switched to a thickening shampoo and it got much better. I have not been losing for months though... and i think that has helped the hair to normalize.
