long wow moment

I'm usually a lurker but yesterday I finally had a wow moment. Don't get me wrong I've had a lot of wow moments, but I don't usually post them because as you know they are usually similiar to everybody elses wows (somebody didn't recognize me, is that a size 10 etc.) and I was waiting for something original and yesterday I got it! Well I have started walking/jogging a mile most mornings and of course as most of you might guess I have never jogged or came near it in my lifetime. I work at an elementary school, and I have noon recess duty. The children have summeritis like nothing I have ever seen before, absolutely awful, and as for punishment for not being able to line up (you have no idea how terrible until you've stood in front of 60 yelling, screaming kids) we have been having them walk the playground perimeter. Well I have a couple who no matter what can't keep in line, be quiet or just behave, so I RAN up to them an said, " start running" they were like your kidding right, and I said, " you wish, get going now," and guess what we were running together and THEY ran out of air. Needless to say they were pretty quiet after that. As we were lining up I said, "I jog 1 mile every morning" they were like really, why? and I patted my tummy. To be smart alecky they say, "it's not working," and I say, "really, well it's worked 95 lbs worth". Mouth**** the ground (a look that I still get giddy about receiving) and one 6th grade student says, "I weigh 91 lbs" ( did I mention 6th grade) I said, "well than, I've lost one of you". That is HUGE, HUGE, HUGE! They were quiet to line up because they didn't want to walk today, although now I'm thinking they should be walking that much everyday if not more. What 6th grader should be gasping for air. I also was gasping for air when I was that age and it truly is a shame. I knew it then and obviouly much more now. Ok, I know that was long, but I had to get that to all of you *****ally understand where I'm coming from on this. Thanks so much to everybody. Keep posting! Jennifer

Jennifer~ What a wonderful WOW moment. 6th grade- Yikes! My third graders are about to drive me through the roof! I have them run/walk laps around the 4 backstops to "burn off energy", so I know where you're coming from. That's great that you were able to run with them, let alone run a mile every morning. I can walk, but not run. Keep it up... and hang in there until June...it's coming! I think we have 25 days left~ and I AM counting! Hugs, Kerri

Good for you! I was never the athletic one, either. And now I'm in a similar situation with my 4th grader. She is so active, but no stamina and a bit of a weight problem. So great and smart, and... I plan to start getting her to job with me in the a.m. but she needs to see an Orthopedics Dr first - flat feet. But I am determined that she will not fall into this demon weight cycle But what a WOW moment for you! My last year teaching was 5th grade, and they can be brutal. You finally got to show up some smarty pants, and they couldn't even get mad at you about it! That must have put a real !!! on the end of your year. Keep up the great work! You're so COOL! Kristie

I'm impressed. I hope I'll be able to run a mile one day. Boy do I understand about the kids - I teach 4th here in Houston. My last day of school is Friday. YEEHAA! Dawn
