how much does skin weigh?
I know it is a weird question. I don't think I have too much lose skin but definately have some on my abdomin and inner thighs. I have been hovering around 222 lbs for a few weeks, but my body shape has definately changed. I can now see and feel ribs but on the obesity scale I'm still obese and need to lose 20lbs to be "over weight". I'm wondering if this lose skin might weight more than I think. (I was guessing around 5lbs). I think I look much thinner than I weigh and in fact am a little grossed out by seeing my ribs. I really would love to have a more accurate read on the weight of my lose skin.
And a little bad news... I had my annual check up for the anuersym on my aorta. I've known about it since 1998 and it has been stable. Well last year I missed my check up so when I went for the check up this year they discovered that it has grown to 5.5 CM which means I have to have it surgically repaired soon. My aortic valve is also leaking so that will need to be replaced. The surgery can wait until August when we return from Spain but I'll need to get it done as soon as we get back. I'm schedule for August 3rd. It is major open heart surgery but I'm certainly in much better shape for it this year than I would have been last year.

Hi Chip! Sorry to hear about your medical problems. You've done so much and come so far and then to hear this
I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Regarding your skin question, skin does weigh a lot depending on the amount that has to be removed. I know where you are coming from... I've lost over 281 pounds in total so I definitely have a lot of skin for removal.
Take care!
Hugs,
Lucy

Chip~ I don't have an answer for the skin weight, but wanted you to know that I'll be praying for you with the aneurysm. I'm so sorry to hear about it. You have increase your chances for a smooth surgery, though, sooooo much by having lost this weight. I think you're doing great! I think how much you're exercising makes a big difference in how you look, even if the scales don't show it. Keep us informed, and let us know if there's any way for us to help.
Blessings,
Kerri
Chip,
I think it just depends... My surgeon says it doesn't weigh much at all. I had an arm lift with lipo and breast lift with augmentation. I lost about three pounds in skin/fat and gained almost 2 full pounds in breast (it's 1.9??? lbs). The surgeons always say it doesn't weigh much...but then you always see someone having a 10 pound panni removed...so to me that's a LOT when you are so close to goal.
I'm sure glad you went in for your annual check up this time! It sounds really frightening, but you are definitely in better shape to handle this operation now. I will keep you in my prayers for a sucessful and uneventful surgery and recovery...and a speedy recovery too. Please make sure you keep us up to date.
Hugs,
Pam
I have heard the average is 10 lbs with a panny removal.
Did you move to Pennsylvania? When did you do that? I was thinking of visiting you in the hospital until I noticed the change! I sure will pray for you though and I am sorry to hear about you having more surgery! It has been a tough year for you.
I am glad you have Heath to help you along though.
Keep us updated on everything, and I sure hope you have a nice trip!
Take lots of pics!!

Sorry about your heart condition. The skin that was taken off my abdomin was approx 8.5 pounds, I really didn't think it was that much but that is the weight I dropped just a week after surgery. My skin hung over about 3 to 4 inches from the fold. gross I know. I ask the doctor and he said they didn't weight it but that is was about 8.5 what I had lost. Don't know if this will help but hope so. You have done so well. You have alot to be proud of!!!!! Hope you have a wonderful trip.
