Topic: RE: What is your daily regimen for VITAMINS and EXERCISE?
1) What vitamins are you taking on a daily basis, and WHEN are you taking them?
Are you ready for this?
First thing in the morning - B12 sublingual (and my synthroid - for subclinical hypothyroidism)
About an hour later with breakfast:
Multivitamin (just switched from VistaVitamins to Centrum - will check my labs in 6 months to see if the cheaper option works as well)
Vitamin E
Selenium
Vitamin C
Mid-morning:
Liquid Calcium with Magnesium and Vitamin D ~ 600mg
Mid-afternoon:
Liquid Calcium with Magnesium and Vitamin D ~ 600mg
Evening with dinner:
Multivitamin
Vitamin A
Zinc
B-100 complex
About an hour later:
Iron (prescribed for iron deficiency)
Vitamin C
Plus, my monthly B12 shot.
Check out these two documents on my website. Very informative about vitamins! Including interactions. One I know for sure is that calcium (and zinc) will hinder the absorption of iron, while Vitamin C helps it.
Anyway, a lot more info here:

2) How much are you exercising and WHAT are you doing exactly?
I've been AWFUL about exercise... AWFUL!!! I've just now started again, and I REALLY want to make it a part of my daily life. I do the stationary bike for 25-30 minutes, abs and leg exercises, and some weight training focusing on arms. I got some very interesting insight from a discussion on the main board... if you care to check it out, it's here:

Third or fourth reply down... ref. muscle tissue... very eye opening!
OK, enough from me!

Topic: RE: What is your daily regimen for VITAMINS and EXERCISE?
Hi Barbara,
I've had a problem with anemia (not especially related to the wls, but secondary to gyn problems).
So, I'm taking iron 3x day. I also take a Vit C with it because it is supposed to help with absorption. Also I take calcium citrate and MVI 2x day.
As for spacing, the iron can't be taken at the same time as the calcium . It's supposed to be 1 hr before or 1 1/2 hrs after taking calcium. The same rule is applicable for food - because iron is supposed to be taken on an empty stomach.
I'm not going to the gym as regularly as I should. When I go - it's 30 min on the elliptical, 30 min on the treadmill.

Thanks Debbie for the info . . . do you have any info on what vites/supplements NOT to take together? I am trying to remember what my surgeon said about spacing things apart but my mind is drawing a blank, and I won't be seeing him again for a few weeks. I definitely need to get back on track so my bloodwork turns out good enough to pursue the PS I'm hoping for . . .
Next time you're in my area drop me a line -- I live right beside the Bay Bridge on the Chesapeake Bay!
My mom lives in southern DE and we have been thinking about relocating to Wilmington in the next couple of years to be a bit closer to her. But not too close LOL.

Topic: RE: What is your daily regimen for VITAMINS and EXERCISE?
Hey Barb,
I was down your way a few weeks ago...hubby had a job and I went for the ride! I do optisource vitamins (4x day), just changed to calcuim citrate 1500 mg a day and I do 2 flinstones vites for extra what ever. I do my B-12 everyother day. My exercise varies....I do biking, gym (treadmill, bike, crosstrainer, etc) for about 45 minutes 3 x week then follow up with weights for arms and legs. I stay at the gym a long time...don't have kids to worry about!
Good luck on PS consult. Please post your findings. One day I will be ready for that!

Topic: What is your daily regimen for VITAMINS and EXERCISE?
Hi Junebugs . . . in an effort to keep conversation going on this message board . . . and also because I desperately need some ideas of what others are going at this stage of the post-op game (my WLS nutritionist is worthless unfortunately):
1) What vitamins are you taking on a daily basis, and WHEN are you taking them?
2) How much are you exercising and WHAT are you doing exactly?
It is hotter than HADES here in Maryland this summer. There is NO WAY I would have lasted at last summer's weight this year -- wouldn't have been able to breathe or move at all. I am so thankful for this WLS journey!

Thank you for the invite Audrey, unfortunately I won't be able to make it as I am having family visiting from out of town during that week. Sounds like a great time, have fun!

Topic: Phoenix Metro Support Group
Did you know that there is a Phoenix Metro Weight Loss Surgery Support group that is for all patients no matter who your surgeon was? We meet on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month at Cholla branch of Phoenix Public Library (outside Metrocenter Mall). Our next meeting is this Saturday! This is a chapter of ObesityHelp. After our meeting this Saturday, we'll also be going out to lunch to TGI Fridays if you are interested.
Face-to-face support is SOOOOO important for pre-ops, post-ops and even those at goal already. We all need support. Help yourself and help others. You can come alone or bring an adult support person with you. We have a great group. I hope you join us!!
Join the yahoo group to get more details - http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/PhoenixWLS/

Hey Terri,
I am part of a Monterey Bay support group and we are having a get together in Santa Cruz on Sep 10th if you'd like to join us:
Beach Bonfire in Santa Cruz - Sept 10 4-10pm
Bring your family, boogie board, blanket, chairs, and get ready for a
good time with us as we enjoy a day in the sun and an evening around a
bonfire.
Adjacent to the yacht harbor, a lighthouse point and Schwann Lake -
beautiful to stroll around. Outdoor showers and restrooms are
available. Weather can be foggy or breezy, so layers are recommended.
Make sure you bring a sweatshirt for afterdark.
Potluck - if the first letter of your last name is:
A-J bring a main dish or appetizer
K-R bring a side dish or salad
S-Z bring a desert
Contact me with any questions!
Topic: RE: got a date for my tummy tuck
Please keep us posted with your progress, this is so exciting!
My WLS surgeon will be performing my hernia repair and TT (assuming insurance approves) and has told me I will be cut hip to hip and my bellybutton will be relocated.
I told him I wanted an anchor cut instead but he seems to think the horizontal incision from hip to hip will pull enough of the skin down from above my bellybutton so as to appear tight. I have a lot of stretchmarks from pregnancies right under my breastline clear down to my pubic area and I know an anchor incision will alleviate a lot of that, when I asked him about it he said that sometimes anchor incisions can compromise blood flow, etc.
At this point I'll take whatever surgery I can get from him . . . and hopefully down the road when I can get breast work done, if there is any excess flab/skin still left on my upper abdomen area it can be pulled upwards by the PS in a "reverse abdominoplasty."
(OK I'll add the above fantasy to my ongoing list of wishes which also includes: winning the lottery, waking up looking 20 years younger, and meeting a decent man, ahem.)
