Topic: RE: one year post op and ps questions...
Hi Pam. welcome. I am having my "t.t." on the 7th of Sept. I also have B.C/B.S. hmo. I was approved because I had medical evidence of problems due to the flabby skin.... i.e.. a very red bad rash. and red oozy looking bellybutton. the more "problems" you have due to the hanging skin, the more likely you'll be approved. My daughter had this surgery in "02 and has more flabby skin, she has health new england as insurance, she had no medical problems and was denied. She should have appealed but, never did YET! She's pregant right now, so maybe after the baby is born she will try again. who knows. well I hope this helps. congrats on your weight loss and good luck with the ps process. Topic: RE: MY HAIR !!!
I'm not shedding anymore . . . but I will say that my thick thick hair has never grown back to its original fullness, unfortunately. The hair that is left is totally without luster. This is the one--and only--negative thing I can say about my WLS surgery, is that I miss my thick hair! -BJ 300/163/150??

Topic: MY HAIR !!!
Hello to everyone it's been a while since I have posted. I would like to take a poll of whose hair is still shedding after 1 year. Is it just me or is this normal?

Topic: RE: What is your daily regimen for VITAMINS and EXERCISE?
I take OnceSource Prenatals 2 after breakfast, 2 calcuim with my mid morning snack, 1 iron just when I think of it, 2 calcuim at night before bed. That is about it for me. I walk on my treadmill 5 days a week and do some weight training. I just now got to where I like to run a little. Melissa @ 5'10" Lap Rny 6-22-04 300/160/???

Topic: one year post op and ps questions...
hi guys!! im new here i had my gbs 6/15/04. ive lost about 90 pounds am 5'4'' and about 150. im in 10's and fairly ok with it but like most of you am ashamed of the extra flubbery skin. arms, legs, chin & stomach. i am now thinking toward the plastic surgery to correct all the above (oh yeah, boobs too) and am wondering how to go about getting it covered as medically necessary. (or at least parts of it) im a single mom too and dont have alot of money to spend on something "for me". for my surgery i worked for the county and had absolutely NO problems getting approved. since then i now work in private industry and we have BCBS (who no longer cover wls). im wondering if any of you have had experience with bcbs. my pcp has been very cooperative with me up to this point (in fact, his wife had the surgery too). i would like to lose another 20 pounds and be in a 6/8 and most of that is extra skin & flab. sighhhhh i am also joining the local hospital wellness center to start toning up. i have lost about all my muscle tone and want to tone up what i do have under all the flab. anyone else in lake county florida area that wants to go work out in the mornings before work?? it would be nice to have a buddy/nag to keep me going lol sorry about the "book" i had alot to say first time!! lol

Congrats on the TWINS! We are supposed to take Calcium citrate. We can't absorb the other since we are missing the enzymes to break them down. Hannah

Topic: Endurance sports, WOW!
A few months ago, I posted here how excited I was to be able to have lost enough weight (120lbs) and be fit enough finally to compete in triathlons, so I thought I'd throw in a quick update. At the end of July, I competed in a Quarter Ironman triathlon, which was a qualifying race. I placed first in my division (Athena group), and got an invitation to.... whoa, get this.... the US Half Triathlon Championship! How cool is THAT! Ok, so I'll feel slightly out of my league next month in September when I race in it, but I don't care, I'm thrilled! The week following the quarter ironman, I competed in a half ironman, and placed first in my age group. That distance, for those of you that aren't familiar with triathlons are, 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, and 13.1 mile run. Ick. It was hot, it took forever, and I loved/hated every second of it! I've discovered many nutritional challenges, doing long endurance races AND being a bariatric patient. During the half ironman, I burned 4500 calories. No way I could replace those calories in one day. Or even three. So, I've been learn the hard way in a lot of respects, so if there are any of you who also enjoy any type of endurance sport, and have learned much about the nutrition aspect of the whole thing, please! Fill me in! lol Ok, I'm all done. I was so excited about all of this, I just HAD to share Laura
