Topic: Hello all, another month is upon us.
Sending good vibes and success to everyone for the month of Aug. I will be 8 weeks next friday. I can't believe it, time has flown and with it all the pain of surgery. Kinda like having a baby, I don't remember quite how much pain was involved. I am so glad I had wls, the best thing I ever did for myself. Good luck to all.
Topic: RE: Are YOU exercising?
like you I have kids at home and it is impossible to walk with them, especially since we live in the country. There are no good walking surfaces out here. I am going to curves now, 3 days a week and when school starts on the 12th of Aug. I will go 5 days a week. I may purchas a stationary bike. I use to have one, wore it out, loved it.
Topic: RE: Are YOU exercising?
No small kids here but I have been very tired. I was trying to walk 2 miles a day and was only managing it about twice a week and would dread it like the plague now I am trying to walk 15 minutes a day everyday and I seem to feel better, no dread. I read an article that said at first you are trying to develop a habit not endurance. Check out www.walking.about.com I subscribe to the "fake until you make it" plan. Yesterday I thought ok if you aren't going to walk at least read about it, lolol and then I got out there and walked. Hope this helps. mj
Topic: RE: Am I the only tired one out there?
Yesterday after reading everyones post I got to thinking that I had forgotten to take my B12 the day before and had been taking it at night for the last few days. Soooo I took one 500mcg at noon and one at 5 and actually felt better. Maybe it was all in my head but either way I felt better. I walked for 25 minutes and gardened for 30. Today I am dressed which is more than I could say by this time yesterday. Just a thought. mj
Topic: Are YOU exercising?
Hi June Bugz . . .
I am having an awful time getting started on a walking regimen and need a pep talk. I've got two little ones at home (summer vacation for 3-1/2 more weeks). My excuse for not walking so far has been that it is too difficult to schedule a time when I can get out alone, and I'm feeling rather wiped out lately. The kids walk too slowly . . . and one of my children is autistic and sometimes its difficult to keep him closeby. Too stressful.
I've tried waiting til bedtime for them, but it's dark and the mosquitoes eat you alive. Plus we've been having extremely hot, humid and rainy weather.
OK there's all my excuses, ahem. My plan is to walk in the mornings once school starts again. But that still leaves a couple of weeks of nothing.
Any suggestions on what else I can be doing? I have Richard Simmons "Sweating to the Oldies" videos here at home, that's one plan.
What are YOU doing exercise-wise, June postops? Maybe if I hear what's going on with you, I will get off my slack behind and make more of an effort and less excuses. THANKS.

Topic: RE: Post Op Shopping List... On a BUDGET???
Jenn,
A suggestive shopping list would be jello (SF) box style, Campbells cream soups, Musselman's SF applesauce 4 oz containers (pick a flavor they are all good... I prefer Strawberry), Lit n Lively Smoothies, Lit n Lively Smooth Yogurts (no fruit in it to swallow), instant mashed potatoes, NECTAR Roadside Lemonade Protein Shake, Isopure Orange, Banana Pineapple Protein Shake, low fat cheese (shredded), cottage cheese, water, Fruit 2 O, Crystal Lite, Decaf Teas (herbal is good), Silk Vanilla Soy Milk, Hood Carb Milk (if you can do Milk), SF Pudding, Hummus, El Paso FF Refried Beans, cream of wheat, oatmeal and sour cream. I have done all of the items with exception of hummus and Hood Carb Milk. I am buying hummus today. I heard its really good. Never ever had it. I am trying to work my way to the soft food phase. Hopefully in another week or so. Just buy a few items each week. Enough for variety. The following week buy a few other items. That is how I did it. You might want to make your own broth....taste is better than the can. Its good in the beginning too! Then take your chicken and make dish for the family! Whatever you buy try and keep it within the family meal plan. Its hard
to do in the beginning but I have noticed that each week it gets a little easier. Good Luck on the 10th. Keep us posted on your progress.

I use Carbsolution protein powder from Walmart, it isn't as expensive as some and has a taste that is better than most. I would have jello, cottage cheese, broth, creamed soups, peanutbutter if you are allowed, crystal light, tea, powdered milk, skim milk.

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I am not tired at all, but seem to have loads of energy. I have noticed an increase since I started taking B-12, iron, and b-6. I was low on them and the dr. started me on them at my 1 month check up. I also feel better when I get in 70g of protein and even 80g is better.
Topic: Post Op Shopping List... On a BUDGET???
Hi June 2004 Post Ops!
I am trying to put together a "must have" shopping list for my return home from the hospital. I go in on AUG 10th and want to be prepared!
We are on a military budget, so any suggestions regarding Protien Supplements and Stage II items would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

HI. I did hear from someone that the most exhausting time is between 4-8 weeks post-op. I went from walking several times a day to barely once a day. We are probably so malnourished! Guess we need to up the water and protein.
Hang in there!
