Topic: :help: Post op cold/flu
Hey, this sounds gross, and so right off: I'm sorry!!! I have gotten the office cold/flu and have come across a very odd problem. My pouch fills up and fills full of nasal drippings. I'm too full to eat or drink anything because of my cold. I tried taking liquid cold medicine but it made me dump because of too much sugar, I tried taking pills but because my pouch was full with ...snot, it made me vomit. Anyone else been sick with a summer cold? Does anyone have any solutions? Again, sorry, this is an icky topic. Original weight: 310 current weight: 245 (down 10 clothes sizes!!!)

My surgery was 6/10/04 and I began vomitting 7/9/04 and had extreme problems keeping much of anything down. My problem turned out to be a bad gall bladder which was removed 8/10/04. I returned to work this morning only to leave shortly as I was nauseous and vomitted several times when I made it home. A nurse and a doctor told me I will have trial and error for months to find foods that I can eat without this extreme nausea. I'm not saying this is your problem, but I am saying to contact your doctor and let them know what's happening. There can be many reasons for problems like this and you and your doctor need to track down what's going on with you. I wasted almost a month before seriously pursuing the cause and should not have. I too have little energy for exercise--just getting through the day seems to be an effort right now! My prayers are with you for finding what's wrong and getting back on the road to recovery!

I had my surgery on 6/25/04. I have gone from 297 to 260. I am having alot of problems getting enough water & protein. I am barely getting 20 oz of water in a day and hardly any protein. I have tried everything for protein (shakes, drinks, liquid protein) and I have a hard time keeping it down. I also have not been able to take any vitamins and they too make me sick to my stomach. I know I need to be doing these things but I just can't seem to make myself to them. I am also very tired by the end of my day so I haven't been getting much exercise. Has anyone else had this problem?!?!?

I had surgery 7/1 and I feel the exact same way....all of the foods you mentioned and portions, I can eat as well. Sometimes I get full quicker than other times....but I know I can eat too much. I don't know how much has been bypassed, but I am starting to worry about this...I have no problems (hardly) with any foods I have tried. I have only lost 21 pounds. I can eat a 1/2 of a Subway wrap (Not Atkins---my own ingredients), onion, lettuce, tomato, g.peppers, cucumbers. I eat about a half of a can of Progresso soup...bigger than the normal size can. I can eat 1/2 of an omelette (IHOP) and a piece of toast. I have tried Pizza and could do about 3 pieces (small squares). I have eaten a whole Healthy Choice meal (turkey and mashed potatoes). I have tried wine (no problem). On Saturday I ate a whole sandwich (5 pcs. Healthy Choice Honey Ham and mustard on wheat bread)...it took about 60 minutes...but I did it. If you find anything out..please...please...please let me know!!!! Thanks!

Topic: RE: 7 weeks out-down 33lbs!
Congratulations, Carrie on 33 lbs! I will be 8 weeks post op tomorrow and I have lost 42.5 lbs. and 23 1/2 inches so far. I have a diet sprite once in a while, but I put it in a container and shake it to get most of the fizz out or its too gassy for me. I have had a slice of bread about 3 times, but only finish about 1/2 of it and noodles I bought whole wheat ones and tried that once. My protein runs about 61 grms a day, yet I do struggle with water. I feel I am doing real good, though. I have been at one plateau already when I was 31-34 lbs. The scale didn't move for about 2 weeks and it was driving me crazy. Then, thank goodness, it started to pick up again. I hope there's not another one soon! I go back for my 3 month check up Sept. 16th and I would like to have at least 60 lbs gone. I'm hoping I can get to that point. I wish you the best of luck and you can find my profile in WI if you'd like to read it. Michelle Appel

Hi, I was just getting ready to start my own post about not dumping and/or feeling full . . . and then I read yours! I'm in the same boat, unfortunately. I feel like I can eat a lot more than other folks, so I am restricting myself to just 3 meals a day, no snacks, no grazing. And I'm going to start measuring my portions. Saturday was my birthday and I went out celebrating with friends, with warnings from my postop support group buddies that I would probably get sick if I drank alcohol. Not so at all. And I haven't dumped on anything else, either. Not that I want to spend all my time with my head in the toilet, you know . . . but I really wanted to have more restriction and a bit of dumping on my side. I mean, in reality, I feel like this is just another *diet* for me . . . and I've failed in all my other attempts to diet. Sigh. I'm going through a phase of self-doubt once more, those tapes in my head are telling me what a waste of time this surgery was and that I am a failure, and of course the feelings of failure make me wanna run to the fridge. I am losing, hit a plateau just last week that has me depressed, but today is the start of a new week and I'm trying to get back on track and get in more protein (unjury unflavored powder is good) and liquids, we'll see. Good luck! -BJ in Annapolis, MD lap RNY 6/29/04 300/255/150???

Topic: Are those MY legs??
I was on my way to work this morning and I looked down at the tops of my legs and they did not look like mine. It was very strange. I have lost 60 lbs and am starting to really notice things. I laid down in the tub last night and I actually had a little gap on one side...not the mountain blocking the water flow thing!! You know what I mean! I still can't imagine being a small person. And my butt definately is smaller. It seems my stomach is the lagging place to lose. But, I am hoping by Christmas I will feel GREAT! I need to eat more protein and exercise. I really need the energy boost! Good luck to you all!! Marsha 343 / 283 / -60 lbs!!
