Topic: When can they/ I tell ???
I will be two months post op tomorrow and have only lost 30 pounds. I am depressed about same. When can I or anyone else tell I have lost an appreciable amount of weight ? My rings/shoes/panties are looser a bit and my face is a bit less puffy but I still have back pains and feet pains and for the most part can tell nothing. Down from a size 3x to 2x but I am starving all the time. Most folks have lost almost twice as much as I and I am still eating way too much as you can infer from my post of.."I NEED TO BE FUSSED AT." Any help would be greatly appreciated. SHeryl H

Hello..I am the original poster here. I have received a few emails that may be of benefit to those of us who are eating too much. Stop the sodas..the caffiene makes us hungry. This will be hardest for me as I enjoy the explosion of the bubbles on my tongue and roof of my mouth. Drinking the sodas was the only thing making me feel "normal". Stay away from the processed foods such as fast foods if at all possible. Eat slower.....eat slower...eat slower.....eat slower. I have taken to eating two eggs and a piece of ham at about 10:00am and then lunch at about 3:00 pm and then a light snack in the evening. I am still starving and I need to shrink my pouch some way if anyone knows how to do that. Thanks to each of you for your nice responses to this post. I wish I knew more how not to feel this is not working for me. I hope we all will get a grip on this before too late. Regards..SHeryl H

Talk to your doctor. I have a list of foods that are allowed, and what you are eating is not allowed for several months. I am only allowed protien, (no beef or pork) and soft veggies and fruit, (no citrus) PROTIEN first. I know all docs are different. Your doc should be able to help you, remember (as I have been told numerous times) this is only a tool for us to use, and we didn't have brain surgery!!!! Good Luck, Bonnie

Topic: Complications... But still happy about my surgery.
Hi everyone...I thought I would share my experience in case someone else is taking blood thinners the way I was. I had to have an emergency surgery 4 weeks ago due to a twisted and blocked bowel. This wasn't any fault of mine or my surgeon's it is just something that happened. Then last Monday I was rushed back to the ER and I had to have 5 pints of blood and 2 pints of plasma due to the fact that I am on 3 types of blood thinners (this is a big nono) and I got an ulcer that began to bleed big time. The aspirin I have been taking for my heart caused the ulcer, so no more aspirin for this Texas lady! The problem is fixed now and I am feeling great once again. I can't take any type of blood thinners for the next six weeks cause it will cause me to bleed once again and I for one prefer not to go through that again. Even with these problems I do NOT regret having this surgery one bit. It is still the best thing I have ever done for myself. Even with the complications I am still losing at a pretty fast rate. I had my surgery on June 8th of 2004 and as of August 16th of 2004 I have now lost an awesome 100 pounds!! Excited can't begin to describe the way I feel!!! for joy and I know this is just the beginning of great things for me. My best advice for anyone having this surgery is: Pay attention to what your body is telling ya and call your Doctor if you have anything unusual happen or anything you just are not sure about. I nearly bled to death because I didn't understand what my body was telling me and I waited until my body had to scream at me that it was in serious trouble. I had nausea that kept reoccurring and just would not stop. I found out it was due to the blood in my pouch. Please pay attention and don't hesitate to call your Doctor and ask questions and get help. Sherry

Welcome Jamie, I do support groups and this site. In the meetings there is always something that you walk away with....My surgeon required that I attended two of the meetings prior to doing surgery. I am glad they did! Debbie
