Topic: New to this Board
Hi Everyone, My name is Patti. Im from Montague Michigan. I'm down 80 pounds and this is 12 weeks out for me. I still have a VERY long way to go. Can't really see the weight loss yet, but I'm feeling much better. Still can't eat meat or bread that sucks. I don't dump on sugar either and that really sucks it means I have to be very careful and pay attention! I had surgery at MMPC Dr. Baker, it was done LAP. I try to workout at the pool as much as I can. Land exercise is still pretty hard to do, I can walk better but it is still hard my legs go num after a short time. I also still have self esteem issues of not wanting to be seen in public and it keeps me from going out like I need to. I've been on the MI board but I thought maybe it would be nice to see how people in my same time frame are doing. Patti, in MI

Hi Eloise, I think everyone carries the weight differently so we just have to measure ourselves and know that we are getting there, supporting each other as much as we can. You aren't alone wishing things would start showing up! I'm down 80 pounds and still there is not much to notice. I started out at 424 so I have a long way to go before it is noticable, I'm thinking about another 80 pounds. : ( But still I have a 4 year old and I would have to carry around 2 kids his size to weight what I did in June! That seems like a lot even though you can't see it.

My Open RNY procedure cost $37 thousand dollars. I ended up paying $200.00 of that (plus $995 for the weight program). Did you recieve an approval letter from your insurance company before the surgery? I find it odd that they would back out now - and I'm not a lawyer, but I don't think legally they can do that. I also don't think your surgeon would have proceeded with the procedure if you weren't approved by your insurance company. Maybe you should contact your surgeon's office - they would have the authorization number for your approval. That should tell the tale. I'm sorry that you're having this difficulty now. We've all been through such a life changing ordeal... this should be a time for happiness. Keep your chin up and don't worry about anything until there is something to worry about. - Jackie

All of your points are valid about excersise and dieting. The way I figure, you probably have not stretched your pouch too much so I would go back to liquids and start over. It will at least give you a sense of control over the whole situation. And will probably help. So far the maximum I've been able to eat has been 3 tablespoons and generally that makes me misserable with acid reflux. My weight loss continues to amaze me. In my 2 months I have lost 50 pounds more now but I have gone from a size 20/22 to a size 12 pants and large/medium shirt. Read my profile though. I follow the directions to a T. I figure this was my last chance. I will NOT go through this again. (I'm certainly not perfect. I have cheated just to see what would happen) I spent too many hours brousing the revisions board and see what pain they are all in. I don't think 1200 calories will cause us to gain. Just the business of everyday living burns that many calories. We just can't go over that. Frankly, I'm having a heck of a time getting in 500 right now so I don't think we'll get in trouble with 1200. Some pouches never stretch up to the 1 1/2 cup mark too so maybe we will be that lucky. I hope I answered everything. If not, email me. H

I think you are doing GREAT I have also been exercising at least 3 days a week and doing tybo 2 days of the week. I have only lost 37 pounds, I get disgusted to at times because it just don't seem like I'm losing even though the scale is moving. I'm guessing I'm losing the weight all over instead on one area. Good luck to you

Hi "H" !! I see you had your surgery about the same time as us... I did check out "pouch rules for dummies" Which was very helpful... But, it didn't tell me if it's possible for your new pouch to shrink if you go back to liquids ?? It did say, if I read it correctly, that 1 1/2 cups of food should be the maximum amt. of food that we will ever consume on a daily basis.. if we are staying within the confines of the rules.. I was also told 1200 cal. will be the max. amt. of cals. we should eat.. And that brings me back to one of my original observations, that if I eat that mu*****al. I will put on wt.. So, exercising is suppose to counter-act that consumption, I assume.. Exercising, to be honest, isn't something that I can stay with.. I start off good and then slack off. Much like dieting, I am told that this is as common as the diet itself.. That's why these exercise places pop up everywhere, cuz people drift away.... And they continue to get the money !! So, how are you doing ?? Has your wt. loss slowed down or are you still pretty steady with the lbs. lost ??
