Topic: RE: My New "Curves"
Hi Faye, I'm going to check out Curves today. I bought a sweat outfit to workout in yesterday and to my surprise I bought an extra large mens pair of pants! I know it has to be because its "mens" but its still Wonderful! I have been working out in a local pool class. I've lost a total of 44 inches over all. Much easier to do stomach crunches in the water than it is on land. I have 4 RS tapes as soon as all my kids are in school I'm gonna start working out with them too. They will be most helpful in the winter when I can't make it to the pool.

Topic: RE: Set your Turkey Day mini-goal here and now!!!
My goal is to exercise at least 3 times a week and hopefully to drop another 20 - 25 pounds by Tday! I think I'm stuck at the moment no scale movement in 2 weeks, and I'm exercising 4 times a week! But with school in play now I know that won't be a possibility.

That sounds wonderful, Faye. I've been thinking of joining Curves as well. They are popping up everywhere and one just opened in my little town. I've been "Sweating to the Oldies" with Richard every day (sometimes I skp Sundays, but very rarely! He may be a little fruity, but he's my hero. His workouts are wonderful and very geared toward the obese person. I can do the entire workout now. That is a big change from before surgery... I could only do about 5-10 minutes of the warm-up. Topic: My New "Curves"
Hey June Bugs!! I weighed in at Curves today and got measured. I started working out a month ago...and have lost 13 lbs since beginning at Curves. I've lost a total since surgery of 61 lbs so far. I was pleased to find that I had lost 4.5" from my abdomen, and a total loss of 7-1/2" overall. I normally go about three times a week, and exercise for at least 30 mins each time. It really seems to be helping...what have you been doing for exercise?? What seems to be working for you?? Share here if you like. Good luck to you all...more later. Faye

This is a great idea. I have lost 53 pounds as of today. I hope to be down another 37 by T-Day for a total of 90. I am already taking aerobics/spin classes five times a week. (Started this a week and a half ago, which has really helped with my plateau). I had slowed down to nearly a halt. My husband and I are going on a cruise for our 20th anniversary Nov 8 - 13, so I will have to be careful of "cruise food" and get in some exercise. Thanks for the great goal idea. -Paige

Topic: RE: Stomach stretched ??
Hi Joanne, Your pouch will continue to stretch after surgery and there's no going back but you can be more effecient in how you use it. First of all stay away from the carbs. Protein should fill you up. The information I got was to use the hi carb mashed potatoes, squash, and other high glycemic vegies only to get your gastric juices flowing in your pouch so it would work then back off the high carb vegies. This can be adjusted after you have lost your excess weight. The mechanism for the pouch stretching is called adaptation and it's how we humans have managed to survive famines. Throw the body a curve ball and it finds a way to adapt to the change and survive. Your pouch will never be as big as your pre-op pouch but it will never be as small as immediately post op either. Use it wisely and it will work for you. Read pouch rules for dummies to learn more about how the pouch works. You already have been able to measure your pouch size now by your comment about eating 4 oz of meat. If you drink fluids while you eat it will flush the nutritious food thru the pouch before it can be digested and benefit you. We were told not to drink 30 minutes before or after eating food for this reason. Good luck and back off those carbs. Cathy Open RNY 7/26/04 -43 pounds
