Topic: RE: I have a question for all the post-ops?
Remember that in the beginning our insides were pretty much numb as they were healing. I still haven't felt hunger yet and I get full quickly. I try to remember pouch rules for dummies and eat in 15 minutes. You sound pretty normal to me!

Topic: RE: **Are people noticing?? When??***
My surgery was on June 8 (54 pounds and 59.75 inches lost so far!). I also couldn't see any difference UNTIL I GOT NEW CLOTHES. It's worth the money to do this. Go to Walmart, a consignment shop, or a clothing exchange. I now have people stopping me on a daily basis telling me what a difference there is. My self esteem and pride of what I've done so far all comes from these smaller sizes, less full skirts, even jeans (!) that led to compliments.
Now I can say with pride, "thank you" for the gift of their compliments and actually believe that it's real and not just "kind words" from them.

Surgery date June 8 2004 - no complications
Lap RNY, San Antonio, Dr. Stegemann
Lost 54 pounds (I always worry that it's not coming off fast enough) and am most proud of losing 59.75 overall inches
Went from 3X/26 to one size 12 (!!!), 3 size 14, and 16/18s
Wearing pants for the first time since 1978! Two weeks ago size 22 pants fit - now they're getting b-i-g! All my weight now is in my hips, butt, calves and ankles.
Protein - don't know. Probably not enough as I'm only eating about four bites at lunch/dinner. Usually not hungry at breakfast but if I am I'll have a 1/2 pre-cooked sausage link.
Liquids - boy this is a hard one! 48-60 oz each day. I know more will help but I just can't seem to find the hours in the day to drink.
Workout: At least 4x a week - 30 mins cardio rotating treadmill, Precore, recumbant bike, gazelle each session; then alternating pilates (with big ball) floor exercises with machines and free weights.
Hair not falling out yet (I'm one week from 3 months) but dreading when it begins. I'm also taking biotin and using the Nioxin lift stuff to make it appear that my hair is thicker.
My biggest win lately is fitting into any chair I've recently tried, and walking through restaurants crowded with chairs and walking between them without turning sideways!

Topic: RE: any one a little down after surgery ?
Hi Allyson, I've been depressed since about 4 weeks after surgery (I had mine 6/28/04), have tried increasing my Paxil but don't think the increase is helping. I'm also very tired all the time...strange, because the first few weeks after surgery I had this wonderful energy! Guess every "body"s different. I'm going to hang in there, keep drinking my protein shakes and taking my vitamins, and pray, that "this, too, shall pass" and the energy will return.
Good luck,
Medora
Topic: RE: Nervous preop...
I can understand your nervousness. I was afraid also but knew that it was my only option in order to save my life. If you think about how much better your life will be with your daughter after your surgery that should help. think how proud she will be of the courageous thing her mother is doing. You are doing this for the both of you. My thoughts will be with you. Let me know how you do.

Topic: RE: any one a little down after surgery ?
The first couple of weeks I kept asking myself why I did this but as the weight has come off I know it was the right thing. It is just such a big change and food was such a big part of my life. I know though that without the surgery I would have died in the not too distant future. I have had some complications recently and have made me think again if I did the right thing....but I know that I did as I can now walk again and before the surgery the walk from the car to the house was toooooo long. If depression keeps up talk to someone, antidepressants can help and there is nothing wrong with getting some help.
