PCP visit today = PS referral
Hi again Junebugs,
I am excited as can be -- and frustrated as all get-out at the same time.
Today was my PCP visit where I asked for documentation of rashes and back pain to support the tummy tuck which my WLS surgeon wants to do alongside my hernia repair this fall. My PCP was happy to write me a letter in support of medical necessity, so I'm crossing my fingers, toes, heck even my LEGS now that I can do so LOL. I'm fairly certain that UHC insurance will cover the TT procedure since my documentation is in good order and it will save them money if the TT is done along with the repair of the hernia . . .
I mentioned to my PCP that I would like a PS referral to possibly pursue breast lift and thigh lift, as I'm having ongoing rash problems in these areas as well (also documented in my charts thankfully). I had thought maybe he would be hesitant to refer me for more surgeries, but he took me by surprise and actually is writing a separate letter of medical necessity for me to take to a plastic surgeon. Woooohoooooo!!!!
Now the only obstacle which has kept me on the phone ALL AFTERNOON? Finding a plastic surgeon who accepts our state's medical insurance coverage for the breast and thigh work. Every one I've called won't even arrange a consult for me, they refuse to accept state reimbursement rates for plastic surgery. (I'm a stay-at-home mom to a child with autism and we're both eligible for state medical coverage as we are below income guidelines.)
Sigh. Just needed to vent. I'm sure where there's a will, there's a way. And I've got plenty of time on my hands to pursue this plastic surgery like a BULLDOG hahahahaha.

300/165/150???
OK here's an update to my original post . . . I did finally get ahold of a PS who will see me for a consult, his office manager said they can't guarantee getting approval with my insurance but they will at least be willing to see me for a consult and we can work from there. That's more than any other PS office has managed to offer (and I've phoned about 30 of them!) so I am looking forward to my August 24th consultation.
I am going to pick up my documentation and letter of referral/necessity from my PCP later on this week, I'm anxious to see how strong my documentation is in hopes the insurance will deem it medically necessary.
