Congratulations Mary! I have just received my referral but haven't made the appointment yet, I am waiting for insurance approval. I too and concerned about pain. I have had 4 hernia repairs and the last one was the worse (as far as pain goes) so I too am a little skiddish. Anyone else out there that can give us some insite? Thanks! Terri

Hi Mary, Congrats on getting a date so soon! I have the same questions as you do . . . I've been lurking on the Plastic Surgery message board trying to soak up as much info as possible, here's the link to get there in case you haven't found it yet: http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/plasticsurgery/posts -BJ

Hi Mary, I had my Panni removed (a little more involved than a TT) so I'm not sure if I can give you the information you're wondering about. I had it done in March of 2005. I had 22 pounds removed. I won't lie it did come with pain and it took longer to get over than the RNY did, I had the RNY done Lap. I was cut hip to hip. My tummy was pulled so tight I couldn't stand up stright for almost 2 weeks. Then I still was a little bent if I was up very long. Now, it changed my life! Thank God I had this done I would do it over again in a heart beat!!!!!! I never thought it would do as much as it did for me not only physically but emotionally and mentally. I am so happy, I can look in the mirror and its a whole new experience what I feel. I was looking for pain relife with this surgery and got MUCH MUCH More! Patti, in Michigan

thank you Terri, Barbara, and Patti!! I think I'm having what you had Patti, as I will be cut from hip to hip and they are going to pull down the excess skin on my gut along with my tummy to tighen everything down.. I also went for a breast lift. but, if that doesn't go through I will be oh so happy with what the insurance did cover. I did have a rash that was present the day of my consult so the insurance co. BCBS.. saw that it was a real issue and not just "cosmedic" though really how could they think that having all this hanging skin isn't a health issue??? I mean really.... HELLO!!!! good luck to everyone that's at this stage of the game. and heading for consuls for their p.s. Mary 268/260/151/????

Please keep us posted with your progress, this is so exciting! My WLS surgeon will be performing my hernia repair and TT (assuming insurance approves) and has told me I will be cut hip to hip and my bellybutton will be relocated. I told him I wanted an anchor cut instead but he seems to think the horizontal incision from hip to hip will pull enough of the skin down from above my bellybutton so as to appear tight. I have a lot of stretchmarks from pregnancies right under my breastline clear down to my pubic area and I know an anchor incision will alleviate a lot of that, when I asked him about it he said that sometimes anchor incisions can compromise blood flow, etc. At this point I'll take whatever surgery I can get from him . . . and hopefully down the road when I can get breast work done, if there is any excess flab/skin still left on my upper abdomen area it can be pulled upwards by the PS in a "reverse abdominoplasty." (OK I'll add the above fantasy to my ongoing list of wishes which also includes: winning the lottery, waking up looking 20 years younger, and meeting a decent man, ahem.) -BJ 300/165/150???

Hi Mary, I hope all goes well for you tummy tuck. I do have a question more so that the support. Are you sure you want to have it done now? Why not wait another year? I am asking for personal reasons. I went from size 26/28 June 10, 2004 to size 8 now. I don't believe I'm ready yet even though the size is good. Malissa

Mary, I am so happy for you. I know that after all is said and done you will be glad you had it done..I had my extra skin removed the end of June and am still not back to normal. It's a really rough road, but I am beginning to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Just remember to make sure all your blood work is good. Make sure you have enough iron and everything else in your system before hand. I had two incisions, one going across and one going up and down. The bottom one has given no problems at all, but the one going the other way came open in two places. Both spots are getting better. I like the other ladies here found this surgery to be much harder than my RNY itself. But then the doctor told me it would be.. I just would not listen. I kept telling myself I can do this and it will not be so hard....Boy was I wrong. I will keep you in my prayers, and if you need to talk just e-mail me. naillady54 at hotmail. Karen 288/120
