I just went to an appt with my PCPand I told her that I think that i have a hernia. She had me lay down and then poked and prodded and asked who my surgeon was. She then proceeded to tell me that I did, in fact, have a hernia and it was a good thing it was so large. Otherwse we would be facing a life threatening problem. Not something that i wanted to hear. It is a 10 centimeter hernia. I go 5/9 to see my surgeon and he wants to lok at it and then either do the repair himself or refer me to a surgeon that is local to me. Thing is, now it hurts. Any suggestions? Sheri

I want a hernia!!! FREE TUMMY TUCK!!! How did you know you had one? I have nothing buldging from my scar! I know that my surgeon (when repairing hernias) does a tummy tuck while is operates on the hernia!

Hi Sheri, I know that you posted some time ago, but I have had 4 hernia repairs prior to my gastric bypass surgery. Hernias can get tender, specially after being poked and prodded, your insides are tender and not use to that! If you are having severe pain at any time, you need to call your doctor immediately. Your intestines can get twisted and cause you great problems. The earlier you get it fixed the better you will be. Often times the weight from excess abdominal skin can pull on your stomach muscles increasing your hernia. Once that is removed, you shouldn't have any more problems. If the repair can be done lapriscopically, you are much better off because incisions can cause future hernias. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I don't ever have another hernia. They are no fun. Let us know how you are doing. Thanks! Terri

I have actually been referred to my surgeon that did my DS and he said since it is not causing a problem, that we will wait until I lose the last 50 pounds. I will then be a little under 150 and we can do both tt and hernia repair at the same time. What is funny, is when I eat, it pokes out a bunch further and looks pretty amusing. Not much pain lately, just a wierd feeling. And the only thign he said about the hernia is that it may need mesh. Does that rule out lap? Sheri
