Ok... I had my surgery on June 25th. I saw my doctor about 3 weeks later (July 12th) and lost 22.2 lbs. It has now been 4 weeks and 3 days...and I am down 32 lbs. Please visit my profile! Anyhoot...my question is with protein. I know we are to get 40 to 60 grams daily. As few carbs as possible. So...when can I have a turkey sandwich with extra mayo? I have been craving it big time!!! Should we eat more protein? When can we move on to veggies and fruit (I have had watermelon )? Anyone else discharged with the "EAT ONLY...eggs, cheese and meat?" If you are one..what else do you eat? How do you eat the meat to the right consistancy? Share your secrets!! Help!!! Looking forward to the !!!

Did your doc. put you on a soft food diet? I can now at 6 weeks have some bread, preferably whole grain. It really is what you can tolerate. Some cannot do bread, it gets stuck. I get most of my protein from meats and cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt and the like. Today I had refried beens for lunch. It was convenient, but high in carbs. I do not have them very often.I also do protein shakes. I try to get in at leat 60 g of protein and am usually able to do that. As for eating meat, you have to really chew it well. I generally have mine with a gravy or sauce to moisten it otherwise it will not go down and that is not a good feeling. Good luck.

Hi Kathy, I'm on soft foods right now. 6 weeks out of surgery and down 36 lbs. Not counting the 8 before surgery. I'm now on soft foods and was reading my packet. I can't have bread until the third month and then only toasted. They claim it swells and gets stuck. When I crave a sandwich, I just have the insides with FF mayo and that seems to calm me right down. Each Doc is different though. Yours may be more receptive to your sandwich craving. Hope this helps. H

Kathy, I am on the same diet as you. I could have eggs, pinto beans (taco bell has saved me this month), chicken and turkey meat, and fi**** has really not been hard. I found the Starkist tuna packs with the flavor (sweet and spicy is good and I am not a tuna eater). I moved to the bean burrito because the onions gave it a little more flavor. My second month I can start the fruits and veggies but I am scared to. I stupidly tried broccoli and cheese and didn't chew well enough. I was in misery all night long. I have had a hard time with the chicken and the turkey. My nutritionist at my clinic says any style except fried and barbequed, but it does not sit well, I don't think I have the chewing down good with it. My psychologist says to dip it in a broth to keep it moist. I was able to have the chicken strips for like fajitas that are in the meat section but I am just going to stay away. I found 2 weeks ago, (a tip from farther out post ops) the protein drink brand EAS Advant Edge. I have tried most of them and they are good. I am sticking with the dark fudge. It is 15gr of protein and no sugars or carbs. I hope this helps. Mary Kay

Hi. I am almost 6 weeks out and have had problems getting in all of my protein. I now eat grilled fish like halibut. I also eat cold shrimp. My favorite food now is Wendy's chili. I haven't had any problems getting that down. I haven't really tried any other meat besides ground beef and fish. The Dr. told me that I can eat white toast, but it goes down bad. I can stomach and egg once in awhile and also make tuna salad to eat on saltines. I take string cheese to work for my snack. Keep trying new foods. It's really hit or miss. Good luck. Lisa
