I am 5 weeks post-op (lost 32 lbs), however, at three weeks post-op I developed a stricture from my new stoma to my intestines (1 mm) and bleeding ulcers and just went a couple of days ago for a dialation. Has anyone else experienced this?

I am 4 weeks post -op. I am currently dealing with a stricture. I have to have mine dialted too. I am unable to eat almost anything anymore. I developed this stricture about 2 weeks ago but didn't know what it was. I am now really only able to get liquids down. I just had one bite a protien bar and feel like I am going to barf. Did the dialtion hurt? Details please. I don't know what a bleeding ulcer is so I can't relate to that.,

In regards to all the email replies to the original one.. A stricture is basically scar tissue near the pouch that develops in about 25% of female gastric bypass patients. Men don't seem to develop it as much as women per AMA's site. I have been in the hospital twice since my surgery in June for a stricture. The surgeon has to go in via an endoscopy to dilate (open) the pouch which closes due to the scar tissue (stricture). That is why I and others who have replied cannot keep anything down-our opening when the food/liquid enters the pouch is closed up. The only things I can keep down are low-carb yogur****er and soup broth. Neither dilation has worked and about 10% of female patients develop longterm stricture which require constant dilation. I basically have decided after a disasterous last hospital stay 2 days ago to just eat the things I can and not to tell the doctor anymore that I am having problems unless it gets so bad I cannot keep down water like the first time. I usually know about 10 minutes after I eat something that it will not stay down (which is about most things on my list given to me by the nutritionist). My family is very worried about me because they see how sick I get after eating. I still don't regret having the surgery but I get very very depressed about not being able to eat at all now (even the blandest things). The new low-carb Hood yogurt is wonderful and a high source of protein. It has been a life savior for me and my primary food source. Everyone says how good I look and how great my weight loss is but, when they find out what I eat in a day (2 cups of yogur****er and soup broth), they cannot understand how anybody can exists on just that & don't think it is that great. I guess I have just gotten used to it except when I am with people and they are eating regular food. Take care my fellow stricture patients and I wish you all the best of luck.

I too had a stricture and just over 2 weeks ago I had it dialated. It doesn't hurt AT ALL. They give you really good drugs and it is done so fast. As for Patricia~ You really need to keep going in if that is what is going on. Messing around with your health after all that your body had gone through is not a good idea. PLEASE go see your doctor again. ~LeAnn~
