still not feeling restriction and worried
Hi everyone . . .
I know that our "pouches" heal at different rates. I've had an uneventful recuperation period (no nausea, vomiting yet) and for that I'm thankful. But I'm still not feeling restriction or fullness after what passes for a "meal" at 3-weeks post-op (say, 4oz. of yogurt or cream soup).
Some postops further along say that with the addition of heavier foods (like meat) I will eventually feel the fullness. Is this right? I am starting to get really worried that I have a bottomless pit LOL.
A friend of mine who had the surgery last year says that I should NOT be able to eat 5 Ritz crackers with cheese spread at one sitting.
What are your opinions on this? I am seeing my surgeon next week and I plan to address this with him, but I'd like to know what YOUR experience is -- how much can you eat at one sitting right now?
I don't feel hunger -- yet I never feel full????

Hi BJ,
My WLS was June 11, 04. So far I can eat two tablespoons of food three times a day. I went through the first month never feeling hunger or fullness. The giveaway was when I ate too much, 3 Tablespoons, I was up all night with bubbling in my throat. The nurse at the doctor's office dropped me back down and that seems to help. I have only felt hungry in the last 3 days and that is if I have gone all day without eating. So far, I can only eat 2 ritz crackers with peanut butter on them in a sitting. Hope this helps.
Do talk to your doctor about it.

Hey Lady,
I myself was going through the same thing. What I did was wait a little but if I wanted a little more I ate a little more. Just a little and see how it feels. Dont push yourself too much. Just drink alot of liquid but if you are feeling like a little more food take another spoon. Just listen to your body not your mind. Girl 3 weeks out I would only be able to take a bite of this or that because my esophagus wouldn't have it any other way. Just listen to your body, if you feel good enough to take another bite go ahead. Everyone is different and this is a learning process that only you can decipher. Please read my profile, maybe there will be something there that can help you through.
Hi. Yesterday for bfast I had 2 wheat saltines with light mayo and country pudding (liver pudding) on top. For lunch, I was only able to eat 1 saltine with a square of cheese and chicken salad on top. But, for dinner, I was able to eat 2 whole pieces of okra, about 1/2 tsp of ground meat from red rice, 1 Tbls of butter beans and 1 Tbsp of cashews. I was pure shocked. Most times I can't eat too much because I think I either eat too fast or too much at one time. You must be doing really well at chewing and eating slow!
BJ,
The first week when I was on only liquids, I was able to get 2-3 oz of broth down and felt like I could get more. It definitely changes. My doctor lets us have solids after the first week and The egg was the first thing. When I scramble it, I can only have half of one and I definitely notice that I eat less in the morning then the lunch or dinner. I still have trouble with chicken and I cooked some turkey tacos the other night for the family and could only have about 4 bites of the meat. But when I have cream of wheat in the mornings for brkfst I can get 3 1/2 ounces in. When I have tried crab salad for lunch I can get a good 3 ounces in. It all depends on the texture of the food and your body. I definitely only have 3 meals though. Oh yea, I had surgery 6/28/2004
Hope this helps,
Mary Kay
