I have surgery on Friday. My confidence is shaken. It's all I think about at night. I am excited, yet terrified of the procedure. The IV, the Intabation tube, feeling them cut when I'm under. Aghhh! Is anyone else as nervous or feeling this way?

I understand exactly how you're feeling. I am now 11 days post-op and there is no way not to be scared & nervous of the "unknown" so just know you'll catch up on your sleep someday! My greatest bit of advice to all that are going behind me is buy yourself a tommy-tippy type cup/glass for your water one that you can actually turn upside down and it won't spill!!! I know what you're all thinking!!! But it lays down next to you on bed when you can't reach for it on table!! I'm tellin ya do it, you'll thank me in your minds anyway LOL,Connie

My surgery is Friday as well.. and I'm scared pooples... I work nights, and I have to sleep durring the day, and I havent slept at all.. I have people sitting up with me at work to keep me awake.. my Boss.. God love him.. is being SUPER supportive.. he's the one that got me to start losing weight, and he's probably one of my biggest backers... I'm not so much worried about the procedure, its after.. I'm scared that I'll fail myself, or lose will and God forbid, eat something and it'll get stuck.. I'm terrified that I'm going through this only to mess it up.. good luck though! I'm SURE we will both be fine! We just have to keep faith.. I have a size 14 skirt hanging on my wall with a pair of my biggest jeans underneath it for size comparrison... its a hell of an inspiration.. the first time I saw the difference.. I starte to hyperventilate.. I'm slated to be in a 12 by the time all is said and done.. so that.. instead of a 14.. GOOD GOD

LOL! Food getting stuck! HA. Aside from the surgery, I have fears that I will be the only one in history to NOT lose weight after surgery! AHHH. I am afraid I will be awake when the catheter goes in, or that I will feel them intibate me or worse feel it when they start to cut! No wonder they are planning to give me Valium as soon as I arrive to the hospital. Never had before, but I'll take anything that will help.

Okay, I admit I am a panic-stricken individual as well. Today I went on the Carnie Wilson website and watched some of her story on video. It was great. When I start to obsess over things that are negative, I try to go to the positive. Look at the before/after pics...that always pics me up...tried and true...if they can, I can. And then fill your head/heart with good stuff. A little prayer goes a long way. I will pray for you. You are almost there. Before you know it, it will be next week and you will be seated on the loosers bench amazed and wondering what you were worrying about in the first place. And remember, this is not another one of our failed diet plans. That is why it is so dramatic...IT WORKS...look at some before/after pics and imagine yourself thin! Good luck! Marsha

First thing my Doc Said was "The surgery wont fail, but you will if you dont appreciate it" SO.. thats a BIG reason why I opted for open.. I figure If I have to go through more pain, and can see the scar every day I'm less likely to take advantage of it.. I think I'll begin posting my medical bills as well I'm glad my post made you laugh, its about all I can do right now..the bags I have under my eyes are making my coworkers laugh, and Its helping me get through it.. I get more support here than at home.. so its no wonder that I'm so upset I'll be out for 6 weeks.. Good luc****ep me posted! and I'll be thinking of you on friday!

I am terrified as well. But mor anxious than anything. I figure if I can birth two children in 1 day I can go thru this... I do have a question.. If you opted for ope, bigger scar more pain, you must be crazy..LOL silly girl. Isn't there a higher chance for infection with open and isn't infection the most deadly complication... I would strive for lap procedure If I were you.. It seems the only smart thing to do... You are in my thoughts.... Korianne

Hey, Teacher Friend!!! I was exactly the same way, and they also gave me medicine to calm my nerves before the operation. I believe it's normal to be scared! I did some major praying. I want to share my favorite verse with you. I have to pray it EVERYDAY! "You (the LORD) will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You." Isaiah 26:3 The best part about the verse is that I DO trust the LORD. When I think of that part, I always calm down. I picture myself jumping up in His lap, and getting a hug. (I'm His LITTLE child in my mind's eye. - I know you love your little ones just like I do, so that will be an easy visual for you!) Just Monday, I thought my constipation was a leak! Boy, was I relieved when the (very mild) pain went away! Did I mention that I am the biggest chicken ever? If I can do it, I KNOW you can! Love to you! Becky

Back at you Teacher Friend! I am feeling much better after talking last night with some people at the gym who had the surgery within the last few weeks. I was afraid of feeling the catheter and crazy stuff like that. Anywho, thanks for the encouragement. I am a Christian and have a strong belief in God's control for my life. I know all will be as he is soveriegn. That was a great verse. Thanks for that! Today I am just trying to get through the bowel prep. I have 2 days of this fun! Broth, popsicles and more broth, lest we forget the Fleets! Lovely, I know. Take care. I appreciate everyone's kind and loving words.
