3 Days to go and I am having 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Thoughts
Today is Sunday the 30th of May. I have been going through this whole ordeal in my mind 24/7 for the past week. I know that just having back surgery on 5/24 has increased my complication rate drasticly. I came through my second back surgery just fine but I will only have been out of the hospital for a week before I have my WLS surgery. My back surgeon has talked to Dr. Fang and HIGHLY recommended that I continue with the surgery as scedualed. I know my recovery time is going to be slower than most now as well. I am just scared and don't know if I am making the correct desision to continue on my current schedual. Or should I call and have it delayed.
I am in desperate need of some talk and advice and just want to know what other people would do.

My back surgeon and Dr. Fang talked for about 1/2 hour and they seem to think it will be OK. I have looked at so many before and after pictures and that helps me a lot. I have lost 81 pounds so far just preparing myself for WLS surgery, and I am afraid that if I postpone things I will gain that all back then some.
Thanks for talking.

Tom,
WOW! I can only imagine the anxiety you have right now. If you really are having doubts about the surgeries being too close together, I would defintely consider postponing WLS for a bit to let your back heal.
I can't believe it is OK to lay flat on your back on a surgical table right now for a couple hours for surgery, but I am not a Dr.
Are you gonna be able to walk like we need to right after surgery? What did your back doctor think? Guess I'm not much help, sorry.
Gosh, I feel for ya. Not sure what I would do but I will say a prayer that you have peace about your decision regardless of what you do.
Hang in there
Amy
My back surgeon doesn't see any problems. I was able walk over 300 feet the day after surgery. I have been through the back surgery in September of 2003 so I am currently building my strength up doing all the exercises and everything I need to do to build up my strength. I can currently lay flat on my back for 3 to 4 hours before it gets to uncomfortable. I am up walking as much as I can tollerate at this point and it is quite a bit. So the walking I think I can handle that.
I just guess it is those pre-surgery gitters. You don't have a chance to get those when you have to go in for emergency surgery.
If this had been my first back surgery there would have been NO way I could do it as I had to walk with a walker for over a month and was in rehab for about 3 1/2 weeks. I am just thankfull that they cought this before it got any more seriouse.
Thanks for Talking.

I want to thank everyone here for the great support. I am on my way to start my procedures for my Surgery on Wednesday. I have to start my Hibiclens showers twice a day until that morning. I will be leaving around 4am Tuesday morning to go to my pre-operative class in Phoenix and then when I get out I have to take my wonderful Fospherous of Soda drink and stay close to the potty until 7AM Wednesday. I am the second surgery scedualed for the day so it is around 9:30am.
I am going through with it. I have worked to damb hard to turn back now. Sorry for the curse word. I printed out my Obesityhelp.com page to take with me to the hospital. It was 71pages long.
I won't have access to a computer to update anyone but YOU ARE MORE THAN WELCOME TO CALL ST. LUKES HOSPITAL AND ASK FOR MY ROOM. I would be thrilled to talk to anyone and let them know how things went. The toll free phone number is on the top of my web page.
Till I can return God Bless, Good Luck and I know I have several personal angels that will be with me. My Mom Hazel, My Sister Gail, My Uncle Roger, My Grandfather Backus, My Grandmother Backus, My Grandfather Bray, Dear Friend Betty Bond, Great Friend Jim Smith, and last but NOT least my long lost Dog Charlie.
