Psychiatry Appt. Question...

I'm just curious... From what I understand, most insurers require patients to have a psychatric evaluation prior to surgery. The insurers that you guys have, are they paying for the visit or reimbursing you later? If they're reimburing you later, I'm also curious to know how much you guys are being charged for the visit. I was informed today that when I go to my psychiatrist appt. on May 21st I'll have to give them $240. My surgeon had said it was be $175 which was already sky high to me since I am a stay at home mom and our family is a one income family. It makes me so the hoops they make us jump through but I guess it'll be worth it in the end. BTW, I have a friend who had her surgery on March 2nd and she's already lost 60lbs!! YAY for her!! Carrie

I had to have an evaluation as well, but to the tune of $801.00. $501.00 of that was out of pocket and the rest the insurance company paid. The problem was that the most expensive and unpaid part was a psychological testing so the insurance wouldn't pay for that.

The only thing I have paid so far is one $10.00 co-pay. There is a $995.00 out-of-pocket expense before the surgery, but other than that, my insurance company is footing the bill. The fees you are both paying seem really high... are you sure it's correct? - JJ

My psych evaluation cost 875.00, but my insurance covered all but 65.00. I did not have to pay anyhting when I went, they bill the insurance first. I'm not sure how other insurance companies work though. good Luck

When I had my evaluation I had to pay $190 CASH, not a check, not a credit card, not a money order. It had to be CASH. I was told that I might get some or all of it back depending on what my insurance company pays. Well I just go a notice in the mail from my insura@* company today saying that they won't pay any of it. So I now have to pay another $815 for my evaluation. I am writing an appeal letter for it but I don't know if it will do any good. I am going to fight it till the end. I don't care how much I have to pay even if I have to send them a little here and a little there. To have my health and everything else will be worth it. I know how hard it is on a 1 income family as my wife left me on the 10th of April so I am doing everything on my SSD of $774 a month. Talk about hard!! Hope this helps. Tom
