I hope everything went great. There will be some hard times in the next month or so, but remember why you came this far. I am 6 months post op today and wouldn't change a thing. Take care. I hope to hear from you on the losing side. It feels good to be a loser I just hit my 100# mark!

I wanted to tell everyone out there in AMOS land that tomorrow June 10th is my BIG day. I'm so excited and nervous. But I'm being positive, I'll be ready for my closeup, and I'm ready for a new beginning. To all of you who have come before me, congratulations and to all those who will come after, best of luck. To a new me in June 2003.

Sonya: I read your post and just had to write back to you. It took me two years to decide that I could not lose weight on my own. I think the kicker was the car accident I was in a year ago. I kept apologizing to the EMT's for being so fat! My sister and I are very close. She was on Redux and, long story short, she is now facing open heart surgery to replace/repair her mitral valve. She was supposed to have this surgery on February of this year. Her heart surgeon at the Mayo Clinic told her he wasn't sure she would survive the open heart surgery and she simply had to lose weight. Well, I didn't tell my sister that I had made an appointment with a bariatric doctor the Monday after her surgery until her suergery had been cancelled! She made an appointment with the same doctor on the same day. As of today, my sister has her procedure at 9:00 on June 30. I have mine at noon on June 30! We are both excited and looking forward to losing weight and getting our lives back. Janelle Haas

Your nervouseness is normal. Last month I celebrated my 1-year anniversary. I had an open distal RNY, and have gone from 321lbs to 200lbs, and will have a hernia repair/tummy tuck done on July 15th. My goal is 175, and I will lose around 10-15lbs from the tummy tuck, bringing me sooooooo close to goal. The hardest part of the surgery for me was that my surgeon had an NG tube down my nose for the first 3 days, making me have a terrible sore throat and a sore on the tip of my nose. The pain was acceptable. From my conversations with male post-ops, it sounds like they don't need to use pain medication at home hardly at all, and seem to bounce back to normal quicker. I wish you the best of luck with your weight loss journey!

Take my word for it, June 12th is a very special day. I am confident you will have a trouble free surgery. Good luck with everything you do. And even though that first week stinks, after that, it is just wonderful. Open RNY 5/14/03.

I have a Laparoscopic RNY scheduled for Wednesday, June 25, 2003. The surgery will b at St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ. My surgeon is Dr. Vishal Mehta. I am excited, but nervous. I hope that having this WLS is the correct decision.
