You might want to try yogurt, cottage cheese, and oatmeal. My fave is cantelope that I puree with my hand blender. I haven't had any luck with beef either. Fish is great, if you get the flounder filets and bake a little longer than suggested they make an excellent source of protein and plus easy to digest.

The nutritionist at my program says it's common to have things taste different from day to day after surgery and for things you liked before surgery to taste different after - also weakness and nausea do happen to varying degrees, but they DO GET BETTER. Have you talked to your doc about any meds to help? Please hang in there. I'm having problems starting to eat after 3 weeks of liquids, but I'm told it will get better. I just had one of the worst nights in years after trying some ground beef - something I'd been told many people can tolerate - so it's back to scrambled egg and liquids for a day or so. -Cyndie

My doc - Dr. Grant with Duke - has us go on liquids for 3 full weeks - and I started on solids only a couple of days ago. I was surprised at how little I could eat and at how much of a shock it was to my system - but oooohhh, it was good! Hard to believe, but I'm already down about 25 pounds! I tried some ground sirloin and it made me really sick... I don't want to feel like that again, that's for sure. Think I'll stick to scrambled eggs for a while.... Any hints as to what works well at first?

I had an open, have had 3 other major surgeries (not abdominal) since Jan. (and bounced back like nothing had gone on!), am chronically anemic, and in my late 50s. I am so weak it's unreal. I feel "sick" almost all the time. Not what I would have called nausea, but on the brink of it. I just simply cannot take those Flintstones. I did start on an iron pill yesterday though. I gag over the smallest thing. Smells effect me like never before. I have so much gas. I thought eating wouldn't be a problem, but it seems that my tastes have changed. Almost everything I loved before surgery like Carnation Instant Breakfast, tuna, yogurt, Crytal Lite, etc. - make me sick now. I feel like about everything makes me sick! About the only thing I can tolerate is a sugar free popsicle and I'm even getting to the point of not liking them. I feel like crap!!! I hate this!!! I feel like I'm never going to ever feel good again.

You'll do great Candice! I'm a little over two weeks post-op and almost feel back to normal. No complications, no vomiting, minimal pain. I so happy to have the waiting part over with. It was the hardest part! Good Luck, Renee Desrosiers

Topic: Monday Surgery
Well Monday is approaching quickly now, and am I ready or what.. I wonder if you can be over ready haha.. Thursday I went for my pre-op blood work and EKG.. After my blood was drawn they gave a hospital wrist band to wear till I go in Monday, guess the numbers have to match the blood draw vial that was taken.. never had to do this before, but what ever.. Am very glad my surgery day is finally approaching.. I'm sure my family is too, so I'll quit talking about it haha.. Best of luck to all others who have surgery this next week too.. Soon to be on the losing side too.. Candice

Topic: RE: Only 4 days to go!!
Good Luck everyone. I too am 3 days post op. I am up at the computer, a little weak but able to shower (I had LAP) and go up and down my stairs. I do have some cravings, but I hope that goes away. The best of luck to everyone, God Bless you all and remember, get out of bed as soon as you can, the pain medicine may make you groggy, but do it anyway!! Love, Stephanie
