Buffy,
Congratulations!!! I agree with you, my date way June 9, 2003, I have lost 72lbs so far, about half way to my goal. But I already feel 100% better and would do it again in a minute for just the blessings I have received so far. Cheryl

I too had my surgery on June 25th and I think you're doing wonderful because I am down 50. When I got down 36 lbs it seemed like forever before I would lose anymore. Then it kicked in, but I'm hitting those plateaus too--I think your body just has to catch up! Congratulations!

Hi,
I had surgery on June 12th...so far I have lost 70 lbs with a starting weight of 239 and height of 5' 2". I have just recently run into a stretch of losing less each week. I would attribute that to working out and building muscle since I go to a gym and lift weights...so all I can think of for your case is if you are working out in a way that would build muscle (lifting etc) all this time that may explain a slow loss.

Cookie,
It sounds to me like you are doing great! The only thing I wonder about is the carb content in the protein drinks you are drinking.
As for the weight loss, from what I have read on here you are just about average (like me). At 12 weeks I had lost 50 lbs. We've all got to remember that this weight didn't go on overnight and its not going to come off overnight either. Also, your starting weight makes a difference in how quickly you lose.
When you are feeling blue, just ask yourself "when was the last time I lost 49 lbs in 12 weeks?" Hopefully that will help you to put things back into perspective!
Keep up the good work!
Topic: Warning! Whining here
This is my first post to the board, but I read often. Today I am 12 wks post-op, but won't be officially 3 months until 6/27/03. I have only lost 49 lbs!!!! Why?? I drink 2 protein shakes a day and 1 meal (usually, chicken breast and a bite of salad). I drink 8-10 glasses of water and exercise 5-7 days a week. When I ask my surgeon, he says lay off of carbs. I NEVER have more than 20 grams of carbs a day. Any suggestions? I believe my pouch is super small and I can only eat a very small amount, so I find drinking much easier. I still feel grateful for the amount I have lost, just wi**** was more.

I know those plateau's are hard to handle. I was on one for over two weeks recently! But, your weight loss and that of the other person *****plied to this message is pretty incredible! I'm guessing that your losses are above average on weight loss weeks, then you plateau, where others of us lose slower, but more consistently.
Either way, when the going gets rough just ask yourself when was the last time you lost 60+ lbs in under three months? Smile, and be happy!

Topic: Don't You Just Love Those Plateaus
Hi there everyone, I just wanted to say that these plateaus are gettin on my last nerve LOL. I have lost about 62 pounds since June 25th, 2003, but it seems I have week long plateaus every other week. Any body else out there seem to be having frequent plateaus as well? Sometimes I just want to scream!

Your surgeon should be a good source of information about support groups there. Also, try posting on the message board for your state in Obesity Help.com. I'm sure there are support groups out there, and those people should know where they are.
Topic: -73# and counting....
My surgery date was 6/23/03 and so far I have lost 73#. I started at 273. I went from a size 22-24 pants down to a snug 16 and feel great. I would like to find a support group in my area. I know there is one, but don't know who to contact. Thanks to all for your support.
