Dear Lyn, My name is Lisa Hoskavich. I had my surgery the same day as you did. Sounds like you are doing great!! I weighed 438 lbs. at my surgery date. I now weigh 283. I have a long road ahead!!! You must be thrilled to be within 40 lbs of your goal! That is great! I have 83 lbs to go to be at my surgeon's recommended weight and 104 lbs to go to reach the weight that gives me a BMI of 25. (which is what I'm told it has to be to be considered not overweight). Write back and tell me what it's been like for you since surgery.Keep up the good work!!! Lisa H.

I now weigh in at 164 lbs. 90 lbs. less than I was 7 1/2 months ago. I have 39 more pounds left to go to reach my goal weight of 125 lbs. Anyone interested in e-mailing me feel free to do so. We ALL need to support one another. Happy losing, Lyn

Topic: 8 months yesterday...
Wow what a way to spend the last 8 months! I had surgery on June 12th with a starting weight of 240 and height of 5 foot 2. I now have lost 110lbs putting me at goal. I am so glad I did this! I have had hunger return but not to worry I knew it would sooner or later. I have been drinking first when I get hungry...then if I think I need a snack I have something (small piece of fruit etc). My nutritionist and surgeon are very pleased with my success and of course I am too. I can't belive that just eight months ago I was wearing a mens jeans size 44 inch waist and now wear a women size 8. I am stepping up the stomach exercises at the gym so hopefully I can get this jelly-belly under control and fit in close a little nicer. I hate to say it but for me this has been easy. I know alot of people say it's not, and I realize some people have a hard time. I haven't though, not complaning. For the first 7 months I didn't throw up once. On that 7 month anniversary I made corned beef with cabbage, and got sick...must have been too much fat. Hasn't happened since though. So I guess I have been lucky. I feel very lucky. I look forward to things now and have recently made efforts to accomplish some things I should have done years ago. So yes I am feeling more confident and energetic. Hope all is well with others here on the June board, I don't pop in often as there's not alot of traffic here but I will try to more often...although I have found when I post I don't recieve replies but that's ok. Thanks for listening, Casey

Topic: RE: size of the pouch
Hey Dawn -- I agree with you 100% -- I too can eat a lamb chop, a steak, or a chicken breast -- up to 6 oz of solids and easily 2 cups of soup, chili, etc. I am still losing weight, having lost 123# since my surgery in June, though the loss has certainly slowed down. I worry about eating too much, though I have never eaten to the point of feeling uncomfortable or have thrown up. I try to maintain a 1200 calorie diet and keep my carbs below 60g per day, though I have gone over in the past, and will probably go over in the future -- hopefully, less so than more. It is a struggle and will continue to be a struggle for the rest of my life -- however, I am grateful for the tool that WLS has provided me. Good luck to all of us!

WELL IT'S HARD TO BELIEVE SEVEN MONTHS HAS PASSED. I HAVE GONE FROM 440 POUNDS TO 300, THAT 140 POUNDS. IT IS SO NICE TO BE ABLE TO SHOP AT WALMART, SOMETHING I HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO DO IN MY LIFE. IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE PLUS SHOPS AND THEN THE CATALOGES BECAUSE NOTHING IN THE PLUS STORES FIT. PEOPLE ASK ME IF I WOULD DO IT AGAIN, LET ME TELL YOU I WISH I COULD HAVE DONE THIS 30 YEARS AGO. I FEEL LIKE THE FAT I WAS CARRYING AROUND HAS COST ME 30 YEARS OF MY LIFE. THIS IS A TOTAL LIFE CHANGING OPERATION. I JUST HOPE IT CONTINUES TO CHANGE. I AM SMALLER TODAY THAN I HAVE BEEN SINCE 1969 AND I AM SO PROUD OF MYSELF, THE WAY I FEEL AND HOW I AM BEGINNING TO LOOK. THANKS FOR LETTING ME EXPRESS MYSELF.

Topic: Hello everyone in Weight ...
Hello everyone in Weight Loss land! I had surgery with Dr. Bruce Jones in Jonesboro AR, on June 26th,03. I am happy to say I am down a wonderful 118 pounds and doing great... I change clothes sizes so quickly I can't remember what I can where from one week to the other...lots of compliments and fun going on here....as over weight people always said I looked like my father, but now that I am slimming down people say I look like my mother............... that is fine with me... The only problem that I have had is swallowing that big vitamin...the smaller ones are no trouble but the one that was recommended to me is hard to get down, but we are working together...ha I have not been to a support group meeting since surgery and I regret that but due to my work schedule it just has not been a good time for me. I have been back to see Dr. Jones on three occasions and each visit was a happy one. He seems just as pleased with my results as I am. I have some new pictures and will try to post them as soon as possible. I have not been on here for about 4 months or so...lots of things going on..take care and Good luck to everyone My prayers are with you all... Judy Forsythe

Topic: RE: size of the pouch
We are not all the same. I can EASILY eat a whole chicken breast. I'm sure I could probably get in a second one although I'd never try. Sometimes people worry about their pouch size for good reason. I have never filled my pouch to the point of feeling uncomfortable and I have not vomited even once since surgery. I eat only the right things (with an occasional extra carb or two). I am one of the unlucky ones that have ended up with a large pouch. I'm still pleased with the surgery and my success. My new stomach allows me to have much more control over my food then I ever have had before. I water load and hold back on drinking for hours after I eat so that I can stay satiated. Just because I can eat a lot doesn't mean I consistantly choose to eat a lot. However it is a little frightening that for the rest of my life I have to rely once again on self control with very little support from "the tool". I wasn't very good at self control before but I'm hopeful that I will be good at it in the future. We are not all the same and some peoples fears are based on realistic challenges that they face.
