6/24 Surgery & trouble eating...
I had RNY on 6/24 -- in the first 2 weeks & 2 days I lost 20 lbs. In 3 weeks I lost 28.75 inches... But I don't want to eat or drink or exercise for that matter! I try to walk a little further every day & I carry my water glass with me EVERWHERE I go. Can anyone give me some good hi-protein meal ideas?? I know that if I ate better I would feel better & would walk more... what an evil cycle! Please help me if you can!!!
Melissa, I try to eat as much protein as possible, avoiding sugars and carbs and fat where I can. For breakfast, I eat egg salad (with FF mayo) and a couple of pieces of canadian bacon, or oatmeal (but that has many carbs). For lunch, try cottage cheese, a great source of protein. I eat mine with ff French dressing on top, with a couple of pieces of deli meat. I also mix up tuna salad with the new tuna in a pouch..yummy! For dinner, I eat grilled tuna or salmon with a veggie (I like asparagus), or I buy a rotisserie chicken from the grocery. Yesterday, I bought a gravy mix to go with the rotisserie chicken to make it more moist and to "spice" it up a bit. For a snack, string cheese is great for protein. When I'm "bad" I eat one low fat graham cracker with low fat peanut butter on top.
I hope this helps you a little!
Melissa,
I had my surgery a few days after you on 6-27-03. I enjoy egg beater/ham/and cheese omelettes on the weekends, I can't eat much, maybe 7-8 bites with 2-3 bites of hashbrown potatoes (small bites) but it sure gives me the energy! During the weekdays, when I'm working and don't make time for breakfast, I've found that some of the power bars, luna bars, etc have low sugar products available. These make my energy level go off the charts! I also like cottage cheese and when desperate, a tablespoon of fresh ground peanut butter (no sugar added).
Another thing that tastes really great is beef jerky! Just be careful on the quality of what you buy, I found that some is just too dry or stringy. The best one so far is Tillamook brand, I like the jerky bites.
I like to make homemade stews and soups, this way I can reduce the added salt and fat. These are my families favorites too! Good luck! Julia
I hear you! I am now 3 months out and there are times when I just can't be bothered to eat. Just no appetite. Never thought that I would ever be feeling that. I also eat peanut butter with a lowfat cracker. I also use the smaller Detour bars at 15g of protein each. They are the best protein bars around. The taste is almost like a candy bar. There are larger ones that are 30g but the smaller ones can be found at WalMart for under $2 each. Hope this information helps.
