I had Open RNY on 6/23/03. I lost 14 lbs in the first 6 days and haven't lost anything since. Have any of you had this problem? Help!! I am getting so frustrated and so discouraged!

My husband had his surgery on June 10 and has lost about 35 pounds . He was on insulin and so many medications that he wasnt losing as fast as me. I had my surgery on May 14. But remeber to move around , be active and drink liquids. Dont be discouraged and keep up the good work. Arema

I had Open RNY on 6/24/03, one week out I lost 12, the second week I lost 8, the 3rd week I lost only 1. Doc says it is from not drinking enough water, not walking. So I am struggling to get the water down and the past 2 days I have walked about a mile each day. He told me that the body goes into starvation mode and starts thriving on what it already has to sustain it, and that the water and 6 small meals daily will help. I am eating "Cracker Snackers" because they have lots of protein and salt, which makes me want to drink more. Kind of a "cause and effect"!! Good luck and I will keep you posted on how this works for me!

Jennifer, I had a similar experience as you. I lost 13 lbs the first week, two the second week and two the third week. By the fourth week, I was looking for a reason! How could I be eating so much less and losing so little? I changed what I was eating so that I was eating far fewer carbs, picked up my exercize, and drank lots of water. In week 4 I lost 7 lbs! Now I am losing 4-5 lbs a week. Today I am 38 days post op and down 30 lbs! I'll take it!

Jennifer, I also had this problem. Week 4 I didn't lose anything so I increased the water intake and started taking water aerobics and bam.......lost 7 pounds in the 5th week. I think the amount of water you take in each day and the protein intake make all the difference. I also tried salty food for that week to help myself feel thirsty. Once you get used to the water increase it's easier to keep it up. Good Luck !!!
