3 1/2 weeks post-op
My doc - Dr. Grant with Duke - has us go on liquids for 3 full weeks - and I started on solids only a couple of days ago. I was surprised at how little I could eat and at how much of a shock it was to my system - but oooohhh, it was good! Hard to believe, but I'm already down about 25 pounds!
I tried some ground sirloin and it made me really sick... I don't want to feel like that again, that's for sure. Think I'll stick to scrambled eggs for a while.... Any hints as to what works well at first?
You might want to try yogurt, cottage cheese, and oatmeal. My fave is cantelope that I puree with my hand blender. I haven't had any luck with beef either. Fish is great, if you get the flounder filets and bake a little longer than suggested they make an excellent source of protein and plus easy to digest.
I seem to have good luck with cheeses, tuna (with low fat mayo), shrimp, and tilapia. I just started being able to tolerate eggs, and I can't handle chicken no matter how it's cooked. I also enjoy mandarin oranges. Cream of wheat with lots of milk works well, too. I had surgery the same day you did. My doctor didn't make me eat a liquid diet, although I ate mostly really soft foods at first.
