Topic: Insurance coverage even if I have never had a rash???
Hey, everyone. I have just started up here post-bypass. I did alot of research prior to my surgery June 26, 2002, but then did not really visit much afterward. Now I am starting to think about reconstructive surgery and stumbled onto a post from here, and it was like, "OH, yeah!!!" Anyway, I have lost 130 pounds off my 5'7" frame. I do not have a lot of hanging skin in any one place; I have a little hanging skin all over the place...back, stomach, butt, thighs (especially thighs), and we do not even want to talk about my chest...LOL. I think what I really need is a belt lipectomy and breast life; however, I have never had a rash or a hernia or anything that would make getting insurance coverage of reconstructive surgery easier. Does anyone have any ideas on what else might make it considered medically necessary? My shoulders ache from having to wear sports bras (my breasts fall out of even tight fitting regular and underwire bras) and I have mild lower back pain. However, I had lower back pain prior to surgery, too, so I don't know if that would count. Do inconviences such as (don't laugh) pinching yourself with the toilet seat or having to move your flabby thighs out of the way before sitting on the toilet count? I never thought I would get to the point of even considering more surgery, but now I am...and I definitely do not have the money to pay cash for it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I had made my goal ... to be in a healthy weight range, but then gained some weight back. I reviewed what I was doing and what I should be doing. First, I had been following the six meals a rule day even though I was nearly three years out; second, I was drinking too soon after eating. So, I cut back to the 'normal' three meals a day (which was easy said than done, but I found out taking chromium and fiber capsules helped), and I now again watch to make sure I do not drink too soon after a meal. I am now back down into a healthy weight range...if not down to my lowest weight. Also, are you still exercising? I would just take a serious look at what you are doing and what you are eating and see where you might not be using your tool to its best and make adjustments accordingly. I would NOT take diet pills under any cir****tances. Also, with chromium...I started taking it because of research I had read that said it helped to stabilize blood sugar, but I found that it helped me to control my hunger (which might be due to blood sugar swings???). I take one 400mcg tablet in the morning and might get as much as 300 more by drinking ZipFizz. However, chromium is one of those you have to have it, but too much will do damage kind of things; so, never go over a full mg a day (1000mcg). Does this help?

Topic: RE: pain in the hips
Dear Karen: My brother-in-law just had the surgery today (I am scheduled for next month). My sister said the nutritionist told them last week that carbonated drinks often cause bi-lateral hip pain! My sister believes the explanation was that the phosphoric acid in the carbonation eats away calcium in the bones and hip pain is a common complaint. My sister had the surgery in 1987 and has lots of this pain--and she is a diet coke fanatic. The nutritionist said her damage is done, but it could help some to get off the diet cokes. She is sticking with iced tea now. I had never heard this before. Are you a big drinker of carbonated beverages? I will be very interested to know if this information helps anyone. If it helps you, please help spread the word on this site and others like it. I figured the diet soft drinks would be great treats after WLS, but it sure isn't worth ruining the hips! Good luck! First, congratulations on the new baby. Second, you just had a baby and under the most normal cir****tances you need to give yourself at least six weeks. Of course you will lose that baby weight, it just takes time. Are you nursing? That takes about 1000 calories a day. Just eat right, plenty of protein to maintain your strength and plenty of fruits and vegetables for general health. Go for walks, with the new baby, even if it's just around the block. Write back in six months; let us know that your weight is back to normal.

I just had my daughter December 2004. I had my other daughter before my gastric bypass. Do things get back to the way they were? Will I get back to my 130lbs? Any reply helpful.

Dear Bobbie, I had my surgery June of 2002 also. I am a lltle confused by your post...did you start out at 252 and are now 150 but want to be 130? If thats the case it could be that 150 is your true weight especially if you have maintained it for one year. But if you really want to be 130 go back to the begining and reread all the informaion your doctor gave you..follow to the letter. Please, don't try pills. Your gastric bypass is the tool you need to help you lose the weight. Good luck, Cindy
