pain in the hips
Dear Karen:
My brother-in-law just had the surgery today (I am scheduled for next month). My sister said the nutritionist told them last week that carbonated drinks often cause bi-lateral hip pain! My sister believes the explanation was that the phosphoric acid in the carbonation eats away calcium in the bones and hip pain is a common complaint. My sister had the surgery in 1987 and has lots of this pain--and she is a diet coke fanatic. The nutritionist said her damage is done, but it could help some to get off the diet cokes. She is sticking with iced tea now. I had never heard this before. Are you a big drinker of carbonated beverages? I will be very interested to know if this information helps anyone. If it helps you, please help spread the word on this site and others like it. I figured the diet soft drinks would be great treats after WLS, but it sure isn't worth ruining the hips! Good luck!
