Topic: RE: FOOD
I AM SO SICK OF THE SHAKES! (sorry for shouting). Food odors are more attractive than ever. The fortunate thing, however, is that when I actually think of eating the food that smells so appealing, I have no desire to actually eat it. The only times I've been slightly hungry so far are when I'm truly due for a shake and the shake does manage to satisfy the hunger.
Right now, I wish I could bypass the mushy food stage that starts in 3 days and go right to the finely chopped food stage 4. But those who have the most success are those who stick to the NUT's recommendations, so I'm sticking it out.

Topic: RE: 2 weeks out..meal ideas?
My NUT said turkey chili is quite popular at this stage. I'm looking forward to yogurt, ff refried beans, feta cheese, tuna salad, ricotta bake, and fruit in my protein shakes. I'd also like to add some pureed chicken added to chicken broth for a soup.
One of my major problems since I was a teen has been breakfast. I simply don't like eggs or most breakfast foods. Post-surgery, I've decided to keep a 24 gm. protein shake in my diet forever for my breakfast. I'll add fruit to it so I can get a fruit serving as well.

Topic: RE: I cant wait to have this mush!!!.. Recipe inside!
I am SO going to make this! Ricotta cheese has been one of the things that I've really been craving post-op. Still can't imagine eating hard cheeses or carbs, but I was thinking of a baked Ricotta with tomato sauce and here is a recipe all ready to go
Topic: RE: Post opers:What is your plan? Look at mine please???
Nope, that doesn't sound too much at all. My plan requires 4 - 5 shakes a day for 2 weeks and that comes in anywhere between 600 - 900 calories depending on the type of shake. I'm losing fine on this. Also found that I really prefer soya milk shakes to using milk in the shakes. Cant wait to start my mushys in 3 days.
Topic: RE: 5 days out of surgery and trouble drinking and eating
I haven't had any trouble at all, but was prescribed Pepcid and Colace to help with these problems, just in case. Maybe you can ask your doctor for these?
Topic: RE: 5 days out of surgery and trouble drinking and eating
I had my surgery 1 day before you and I have been on clear liquids for the 1st week so I have not eaten anything other than jello (if you consider that eating). With the gas pains what I find works more than anything is walking and time I am just starting to get more gas out these last couple of days. I have used gas X strips and they seem to help with the upper gas but not much with the lower gas. I find it is very hard to keep the liquids down if I go to fast I really need to sip slowly. Also try room temp rather than cold liquids it seems to help also for me.
I hope you start to feel better soon

My doc has me on Prilosec OTC for the first month. Have you tried that?
Topic: RE: 10 Days Postop-What type of weight loss is to be expected?
I have a question. Why do people gain after surgery? I never knew that could happen. Does it have to do with all the stuff they pump into you?
Also, my stomach is puffed out. from surgery. Does anyone know how long that will take to come down?

I had my surgery (RNY) on 5/11/09 and weighed in at 272 and as of today I'm 248. The first week I lost 17 lbs and 7 lbs since. Good luck to you.
