Callorie intake post op
I am probably getting 600 calories with my protein shakes (about 3-4 oz each meal) mixed with milk. I only use 3-4 oz of skim milk but still use the whole scoop of protein powder. I don't want to lose muscle. The first few days home I could barely get anything down, getting a little better each day.
Bowel changes have been very noticable (ie NEVER TRUST A FART!). I even started to take my iron supplements again yesterday in hopes that it would slow it down. But liquid in, liquid out. I hear once you start eating solids again then you have to look out for constipation. I don't look forward to that, but it's hard to go for a walk or go to store without worrying about the other either!
A fellow friend who did her RNY last year swears by probiotics and I have started on them for the last 10 days. Have you tried it?
How much liquid are you consuming now...? was it easy to adjust to sips instead of gulps? living in a hot and humid climate dehydrates me easily.. and i may forget the sips and opts for the gulps especially when it gets very hot..and the throat gets really dry and scratchy
How long did u have to cope with the discomfort from the surgery?? and how soon were you up and about (i ewalking, taking a shower...??) I heard the residual effect from the gas is rather unpleasant and quite nasty..
I'm packing my stuff tomorow... i shall leave my home on Monday and come home with a new perspective...!! How long was your hospital stay??
Trust me, you will only sip because of fear! I gulped yesterday without thinking and the immediate discomfort and gas reminded me real quick! I think one or two gulps won't kill you , but it's hard on the new pouch and can damage it if done too much.
The gas was pretty horrible, but I got up and started walking the halls the day of surgery and it is the only thing that helps. Believe it or not but most of my "gas" pains were in my left shoulder and they were quite awful.
I was able to take a shower the next day after surgery, it was like heaven! I had lap RNY and there was very little pain. Just moderate discomfort unless I strained myself or wasn't careful getting in and out of the hospital bed. My bed at home is quite high and much easier to get in/out of.
Good luck, it will be here before you know it and then you will wake up and it will be over. Then you will start the mantra, sleep, pee, walk the halls, sip, sip, sip, and repeat...
