Callorie intake post op

OK I am confused...

In the paper work I was given from my surgeon it says that up to 2 weeks out the average calorie intake is 200 calories.

Now with 2 protein supplements of injury mixed with milk and the isopure drink, all that they told me I should be drinking that alone is 520 calories, with 96 grams of protein.  That is the the calorie range for almost 3 months out.

How am I supposed to get that much protein in and be at 200 calories?  I have my first post op Wednesday and will be asking about that.  I just don't see how that works.

What is the average that post ops are getting ?

Wow, I know on my 1st week I have no calories they want me to stick with it just needs to be clear liquids they want me to try to get 70g protein and 48 oz of water.  Weeks, 2,3 and 4 I am on full liquids and puree (puree is 1/4 cup for the 3 meals a day) and protein increased to 90 g and 64 oz of water.  Weeks 5, 6, 7 and 8 I move into Soft and 1/2 cup 3 meals a day.  Week 9 I go to Normal 3 meals a day and 3/4 cups.

It is amazing how difference all the different programs are from each other.

Hi!

My surgery date is May 26th. I am now 4 days into the liquid diet. I am starting to feel dizzy.. somewhat unwell... is this normal...? is it effects of ketosis?

My diet is protein shakes for breakfast and lunch with apple or yoghurt in between. and dinner is blanched vegetables or salad. Water is about 50 oz daily.

Diligently taking multivitamin with minerals supplement, probiotics and milk thistle.

The first few days of liquids are hideous. I started feeling better about halfway through the fourth day. But I only drank shakes (5 a day) so I may have been getting more calories than you.

It really is torturing... Especially when i get mixed emotions when I think of food... It's like being in grief and mourning a lost friend (comfort). Does anybody feel the same too...?? Help!

I'm trying a few variations with my salads and vegetables and running out of ideas...

5 more days to go before the D day!!

Day 3 on my liquid diet was really bad, I had a headache and was so tired I could hardly stay awake to do my job.  Then Day 6 I think I was pouting because my family had something for dinner I liked (if you ask my DH he will say I was grumpy/*****y) Well he wouldn't say it but he would think it.  .  I am on Day 9 now and I find today I am hungrier than normal so I have added an additional shake.  (My NUT wanted me to have 4 shakes a day, but after the first couple of days I cut it down to 3 because I did not feel I was hungry for that other one),  I have 5 more days to go.

I'm still dizzy and lethargic... almost dozing off on my desk too....!! this is really difficult... Especially when hunger creeps in... I try to have half and apple or some salad ... but that only makes my tummy rumbles even more..

The only thing that I like being on the liquid and vegetarian diet is that my complexion glows!! I guess a little detox does have its benefits.

I also feel like my heart is beating faster whenever i walk a little bit more than usual.. maybe that's just anxiety huh...??

Is sleep apnea test necessary for you? My physician suggest for me to do so... I'm still trying to decide..

I did not have to do a sleep apnea test, I guess I don't have the symptoms for it, I really have no idea what the symptoms are.  I would say if your Doc suggests one it is probably a good idea to have one.

I do not remember being dizzy at all but I was so sleepy it was very hard to work on the 3rd day of the liquid diet.  (on my diet I am not allowed any fruit because there is to much sugar in fruit)

Well, heart beating faster means ANEMIA to me.  Better have it checked out. Also, try to have more protein shakes and less apples/salads.  The protein will help with the lack of energy and you don't need apples right now, they are full of sugar!

Get your blood checked, anemia will make you tired, heart beat faster and pound in your chest, and will also make you dizzy and nauseous.  But worst of all it can cause heart problems and keep you from having surgery.  GOOD LUCK!
