Thank you Ladies for your kind responses. It's nice to know that I'm not alone in the insanity! I'm nineteen days out - those of you who are just a few days away must be so excited. Those of you who who have just had the surgery -ROCK ON! We are on the brink of something incredible. Remeber when we were kids and if something didn't go right when you were playing -somebody yells "DO OVER" and the game would reset to where it went off track and you'd start again? Well Ladies... I'm calling a "DO OVER". Who's with me!

Best of luck with your surgery, here is something to keep in mind....The amount of weight lost with the lap band and the RNY are almost identical at the end of a 5 year period according to statistics. So keep your head up, think positive and get your fills done, you'll do great! Shelia

Oh I can soooo relate to what you are going through! I'm 7 days from surgery and though I am calmer now, last week I was going nuts with the same thing you are feeling. The panic has passed for the most part and has been replaced with a calm acceptance that yes, this is gonna finally happen. I wish you the best of luck ! Shelia

Hi Elliejon, Ham is good protein but is also full of sodium which you probably don't need. Your erratic heartbeats may be due to low or high potassium levels especially if you are having a problem with dehydration. Drink more water/ flavored water and steer clear of things with caffiene since it is a diuretic. Best of Luck, Shelia

Topic: May 21st is my day!
I'm very happy. I received a voice mail from my surgeon's office telling me that my lap band surgery is approved for May 21st. I go to the hospital for preadmission on the 12th and for boot camp on the 15th. I guess they'll start me on the liquid diet the day after boot camp. My husband is soooo cold about my decision to have wls. He voiced his opinions and that was that. He's not an ounce happy for me. He's very concerned that something bad's going to happen to me. I have asthma, high blood pressure and I had two bouts of bronchitis a month apart from each other. He says that I'm always sick and having surgery might complicate things more. He doesn't understand that that's precisely why I need and want this surgery, to become healthier. I'm on my way. Nereida

Hi Lauren, glad you are doing well. I have been home 2 days and am doing pretty well too. Gas is a Pain (ha ha) I am taking Gas-X - store version it is cheaper. It is working well so far. I keep hiccupping. that hurts. I also take pepcid chewables. this is my first day of my all liquid diet, its 6 oclock and I only did half. I better get on the bandwagon for tomorrow. I slept late, still recuperating. well good luck with the gas problem.

Topic: One week to go...
I'm a week from my surgery date and I find myself alot calmer than I was last week or the week before. I'm really glad, I'm not sure how long I could have maintained that level of semi hysteria. LOL Shelia

Topic: itching and dehydration
What is the deal with this dehydration thing? I am about 15 months out from my surgery and have had three IV's in the past year for fluid. Apparently, I do not drink enough water.....for the past two weeks my whole body has been itching, itching, everywhere. It is better now that I had an IV. Also, gas is a problem.... I have tried everything..... Hopefully, this resolves SOON. It is horrible. I try to eat lots of protein. How is Ham in the protein department? I crave ham. I have also had fast heart beats for a long time (spordaic). I had a Holter monitor twice and everything was fine. Would this be dehydration too???? The dr's don't seem to know. I guess I have to go back up to the U of M to my surgeon and have him check this out even if my family doctor can not find anything wrong. What a journey this has been. I would absoutely do it over, though. I have lost enough weight and am trying not to lose anymore, but I am. I guess I have to hit the ice cream this evening. I don't dump so I am lucky in that department. Anyway, if anyone has any advice...please feel free. I am so glad I found this site. It has answered lots of questions for me. THANKS SO MUCH. elliejon

Topic: I'm new...how are ya?
Hi Everyone, I'm still trying to figure out this posting thing. So I'm sorry if I mess up. Anyways, I want to take control of my obesity and do something about it. I've tried for years and nothing has worked. I have been overweight my whole life and I'm sick of it. I want to have this lapband surgery, but I'm not sure if I qualify, if I'm doing for the right reasons, or if anyone else will understand me. I do feel my reasons are just, but I am afraid of what everyone else will think. Anyone else ever felt this way? My husband is worried and he thinks it is dangerous. But all the literature seems to say it is more dangerous to have a BMI of 40. I've read all your posts and it seems that maybe some of you can maybe understand where I'm coming from???? I dont' know...maybe I am crazy!!!!!! In any case, I am barely at the stage of having my first appointment with my new PCP for a referral to Dr. Oliak. Anyone had him? Like him? Any pointers for my first visit? Thanks for letting me vent!!!!!!! -Slo
