Hi Dionne! My surgery date is May 16 and I'm having a DS with Dr. Rabkin in San Francisco. I live in Chicago but he was highly recommended. He holds monthly weight loss meetings that outline all of the procedures, here in Chicago. I feel as though I know him and that helps me from getting too nervous. Which type of surgery are you having? I was diagnosed with diabetes about two months ago but it's under control with Metformin. I never had any symptoms but it is a co-morbidity. I don't have any specific pre-op diet but I've been seeing a nutritionist for several months and I'm on a high protein, low fat diet. The only thing that's going to change for me is the no/low dairy restriction. Also, with DS it's no sugar and no alcohol for a year. However, my sweet tooth is really a carb tooth so I won't miss the wine but I will miss the cheese and crackers! I'm rather new at replying so I hope this gets to you. marss

I dito Diane. Being 5-days post op I clearly recall how the night before felt. You just have to find ways to keep your hands and mind busy. I brought things to do in the hospital but in reality all I did was slept and occasionally watched some tv. Once its over you will be SO relieved and able to move on the to the next more exciting phase of your new life. Eating when you get home will be hard as you don't have the growels or desire to eat. All I can say is protein protein protein!!! My program has me on pureed foods they've prepared for me and only today have I been able to finish the a whole 1/4 a portion. :-0 Water is essential as well. And there wil be gas pain but that only lasts a day or two. One minute, one second at a time and do whatever you have to do to keep yourself preoccupied. Good Luck!!!!

Really glad to know it's not just me. Your surgery is two days before mine and I wish you all the very best for yours. I am sure you will be fine and it will all be worthwhile in the end. Congratulations on getting thus far, and I look forward to seeing how you get on after the big day Warmest wishes - Dionne

The last time I posted, I was worried that I had just been diagnosed with diabetes that appeared to be v.out of control. Well I am diabetic but it seems it is only mild at the moment (whatever that means as haven't been able to see my GP yet!) It is also more under control as I am now on the pre op diet, which is hard, I am very hungry all of the time, and sunflower seeds just dont seem to cut it as a snack. Alcohol is now out as are fizzy drinks, and I know my body is detoxing and I am losing weight. Now I have to get focussed on the surgery, and am therefore declining social events for the next few (well several) weeks as I can resist everything except temptation. I am excited and anxious about the surgery but the thought of having a normal and more importantly, healthy weight is kind of keeping me going....most of the time. Not going to change my mind I know that much but I have made a bit of an error in that I have booked my date without taking account of what my family are doing and they will all be out of the city/country, when I am in hospital...I have the prospect of having to come back to an empty house, 6 flights of stairs and no-one to work the liquidiser lol. Even that is not enough to deter me though. Too far down this road to turn back. I would love if someone would add me as a friend on here cos it would be nice to be able to talk to someone over the next few months....especially as most of you are in the US and I'm here in the UK which is compounding my sense of being out of a bit... Anyway just thought I would post my thoughts and a big thanks to all those *****assured me over the diabetes issue Hope to make some friends soon D

A couple things might be going on....you could be mourning your loss early, but especially if you are on any kind of restriction foodwise, you have also lost your coping mechanism. There are two things you must know: It is NORMAL and you won´t drown in your tears. All the things we stuff down DO eventually have to make their way out. I wish you great peace and success on your journey. Think of it as a new adventure! You are in my prayers. Karin
