Thank you for the reply. It gives me an idea of what I'm dealing with. My surgeon's office is suppose to call tomorrow and set up my pre op consult and the same day of the consult they will schedule surgery and submit to insurance.

Topic: RE: 1st Dumping Syndrome experience
Hi Kristy Sorry to hear about your episode. That must have felt awful. The sugar amount is very high. I use a high protein, low carb protein shake mix. You can purchase these at Walmart in the pharmacy area, also Cost co carries one variety, I think. Health Food stores carry protein drinks as well. I'm not sure what surgery you had, but I am 9 days out (RNY) and am only allowed 30 mls per 15 mins. Did you drink too much at once as well as have too much sugar? I was also told to make sure my protein drinks had 20 to 30 grams of protein per drink. The protein is very important. Hope you get it all figured out. Good luck. Di

Topic: 1st Dumping Syndrome experience
So, I believe I now know what they mean by the "dumping" syndrome. I tried a Boost High Protein shake yesterday, drank 1/2 of the 8oz. bottle and within minutes I felt sick to my tiny little stomach. Then the sweating and the nauseau set in, it was awful. It did pass but I just took some anti-nauseau medication I had and went to bed. Think it lasted about an hour total but it was not fun. Too much sugar in the shake? It did have 27g of sugar per serving. So I won't be drinking those anytime soon! But what else can I try for protein shakes then? I am having a hard time getting my required protein in. All I am eating 6-days post op is yogurt w/ no sugar added and my 1/4 a tray of my Pureed meals each time, which has chicken in it. Hmmmmmm.... Last nights epi has made me a bit leary to move on to Phase 2 of the diet next week though, but I am anxious to have more variety in my food.

Go for it all guts, all glory!!! You will do great and you have a hubby to support you in all of it. You know deep down you are doing this for a reason and you will come out feeling those "oh, crap what did I do" feelings but after a few weeks and we all start seeing this weight melt off those thoughts will quickly go away! I think if anything I am scared of the unknown. Not knowing how it would feel, not knowing if I would ever be able to eat (instead of just drink) food again (but you will), not knowing what it will be like to be a size 10 instead of a 22??? Just stay focused and for me doing whatever I needed to do to NOT think about surgery was best. Congrats and the bestest of wishes for your big day tomorrow!!!

You are so brave to do this. I know you must be so scared. As long as you are doing it for the right reasons, you will be fine. I have my wls June 2nd and it is such a roller coaster. I still have 3 weeks left and can't imagine how I will feel the night before. I will be saying an extra prayer for you tonight. Good luck and God Bless

Sounds like you have been through so much. I dont have my wls until June 2nd, but my sister had hers last Monday. She has been very nauseas and still has not left the house. She has lost about 5 pounds. We can only take one day at a time. Good luck!

I have them. It took me 28 days to hear. Believe me I was counting down. I got approved after my first time trying. I did call and see if they recieved my paperwork and where it was in the system and they always told me they had not recieved it yet it. No idea why, but my drs office says they always tell people that. Good luck!

Hey Cheryl, I'm trying to ease my way into full liquids because I find that I'm a little worn out and in need of more than broth! So far, so good. I find that cold drinks hurt going down, do you? Karin
