Topic: RE: my surgery is 15th
My surgery date is May 27. I am having lap-band. Can anyone tell me REALLY what to expect. I'm a single mom with 2 teenagers. Do I know what I'm getting myself into?

Remember your body can only absorb so much protein at a time so break those protein bullets into 3 if it is the 42 gram ones.. I never could stomach the Isopure. You do need to force yourself to eat. Alot of people after the 2 weeks post opp get the small serving of refried beans with cheese from Taco Bell. It has alot of protein and goes down well. The key is to eat with junior utensils, small spoons or ****tail forks so help you eat the correct amount and slowly. Seems stupid but it works. If you don't eat slowly and not puree or really chew your food your going to experiance real pain even with the Lap Band. One of the hardest things is too eat and to eat small bites and slowly.

My surgery is not until May 27th, so I am no expert, but what was recommended to me is ProStat-64 which costs 29.95 at Bariatric Advantage for a 30 oz bottle. What is great about it is that only 1 oz. provides you with 15 grms of predigested protein. It comes in many flavors including natural which is tasteless & can be added to anything even broths. Heck if it's only 1 oz. I can just down it straight! Anyway it made sense to me because I was concerned about getting in so much protein at the very beginning, so I bought a bottle last week for when I first come home from surgery!

Topic: RE: HELP getting through 2 weeks of pre op diet
Ah si si si...I too had to do OptiFast, except my surgeon's nurse couldn' t read a calendar and scheduled me for my pre-op ONE week before surgery instead of TWO so I got out of a week, and since I don't have as much to lose they were ok with that. My program allowed me to have SF jello, SF pudding, and raw veggies so I regained my love for baby carrot stix and cucumbers with salt and pepper. Otherwise, for me it was just the first few days that were the hardest practically detoxing. Good luck, you can do it!

I'm sure it's totally from quitting smoking (WTG, BTW) and you should get over it by the time you have surgery on Tuesday. For me I was in the ER 2-weeks before surgery with dehydration and they said as long as I felt ok and it was not respiratory I was ok. And I'd say you will be too. But if you still feel this way Tuesday AM just mention it to them. Good luck on Tuesday!!!

Since I have to sip sip sip on water all day long anyway I start by drinking 20oz. of Special K protein water. Its basically flavored water with whey protein added to it. And it tastes good. I have the same issue and I have to force those protein shakes down somedays or I also eat low fat, no sugar added yogurt. I didn't have the band, but RNY, and it took me almost a week before I had any desire to eat and that was still with out an appetite really.

You still have time to get over it. Take it easy for the next few days. If you still have a sore throat day of tell the nurse. I had a sore throat a few days prior to surgery and was fine.
