Topic: Newbie - Sugery Hope to Be - Encouragement Appreciated!
Hi, I've been surfing the site for about a week. I'm seeing my PCP on Tuesday and she is referring me to a bariatric surgeon. This is a very inspirational and encouraging group and I feel more relaxed already after reading all your wonderful posts. I am 67 (healthy - trying to be active 67, despite the weight) , 5'0", 250 lbs., and have done every diet in the book - along w/moderate exercise since I was about 40. I have high blood pressure, sleep apnea, hypothyroidism, arthritis pain, acid reflux, anxiety/depression/frustration w/the weight I'm carrying and even some urine incontinence when sneezing, coughing. DO YA THINK I"M A CANDIDATE FOR WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY????? ha, ha, Really, I can't wait. I will continue to read all this wonderful information on the site and anything additional you can suggest would be greatly appreciated. I'll let you know how Tuesday goes and when I will be seeing my surgeon and what follows from there. Thanks for listening and giving any secrets you may have to help me along. Sib

Topic: RE: Hiccups!!!
It does happen and I really don't know why. I get it off and on and it has been posted several times when I was a newbie. Ask back to last years May 2008 board and see what you get. It was never anything serious that I remember. Just aggrevating.

Topic: RE: Seriously - can one person have this much gas?
Good Morning, Did you read my post back a couple days??? LOL, Gas is something we all experiance and alot of it the first year. Like I said the smell of it will clear a movine theatre. Men will be impressed. Bad thing is it hits you at any time and it is not always just gas. Lose bowls and on and off diaria may slip right out with it, depends on the foods you ate. Honestly there isn't much to do about it. Young kids will be impressed, boys anyways and teenage girls will gross out. I had bad gas in the car on the way to taking some to school! LOL Get a cushion for your car to sit on that can be washed, honestly the smell will linger and ruin your seats. Now tired is normal for alot of us, just keep taking your vitamins. Yucky baby poop is normal and long string bowls will be the norm. Your regularity will vary but you will fall into a routine with your body. Drink your water!! Your fine and Good Luck!

Topic: Seriously - can one person have this much gas?
Hi folks, I had my RNY on MOnday May 12th came home Wed May 14th and woke up this morning to my first "baby poop" Not to be gross, but since that poop I have been farting non- stop and man are these huge farts. I mean how can one person make this much gas? I am like a methane factory here. All I have had since surgery is broth, protein shakes, and water, I have gotten past the fire breathing dragon tongue and now just have sort of dry snake tongue. I realize there is a revolution going on in there but seriously. I feel fine, no pain to speak of, a bit tired and wimpy, but otherwise okay. If anyone has had this experience, please let me know. I read somewhere on these pages that it might be lactose intolerance, and my protein shakes are milk based, but I am wondering if it more than that. thanks.

Are they of any value if your insurance plan has a specific exclusion for any weit=ght loss surgery?

Topic: Hiccups!!!
OMG I have had major painful neverending hiccups for two days!!!! They come and go but they stay for a long time. My chest and tummy hurt SO bad. I can't pinpoint anything that triggers it, it just seems to happen. I've tried several "cures" but nothing really seems to help get rid of them!!! I'm losing my marbles. Is this in ANY way linked to WLS? Does anyone else find hiccups to be a problem right now???

Topic: RE: protein HELP
Ditto this. Aside from protein shakes and some peanut butter tossed in, the only other protein I can stomach now is fat free refried beans. Heated up with some fat free cheese...they're pretty good! I cannot tolerate chicken, even after pureed in the Magic Bullet. It tastes like sawdust and does not sit well.

I'm 1 week out and my surgeon said I can start soft foods. So I did. I had some tuna and lettuce. It took more than 2 oz to fill me up. I'm scared. I wonder if this surgery is going to work for me. I thought I would take two bites and be full, but I kept eating and eating and still not full. Have you or anyone else had these fears? I would appreciate anyone telling me about their first experience with food. Thanks.
