you have done wonderfully!!!!!  one thing my nutritionist did for me was that she had me cut back on my protein intake to match my activity level.  For many months i could not exercise as well because the arthritis and just severe pain in my knees and i had been seeing an orthopedist about it and our next step is arthroscopic surgery.  so basically with my activity level down, she cut back my protein intake to 60 - 70 grams per day.  now if I'm up and can do things, i have to bump it up to 100+ grams per day but right now I don't see how i can exercise that much without hurting myself.  After losing 241 pounds, I'm still considered obese but I still consider my surgery a major success.....this is the healthiest obese I have ever been!  After not being on blood pressure medication for 11 months, my bp yesterday was 110/70!  my resting heart rate is in the 60's instead of over 100.

one thing we have to admit.....we've both done wonderfully with following the rules because of the weight we did lose :)

So sorry about the setbacks... You are doing fantastic!!

I have had a few setbacks also...1 at 6 months PO and then a foot surgery...deterred me from exercising...

I am quite frustrated with the same 5 pounds up and down...I cant seem to get past 165 from 302...has been weeks now!  I lost 10 over the foot surgery ordeal where I was bed bound and nothing since!!

I go up 3 pounds then stay there for a few days then drop 2 pounds then go back up 1... nothing has changed with my eating or regimen except I am still recovering from foot and not able to walk long distance or put on a closed shoe...toes still very swollen and foot gets swollen if on it too long...I lost all my weight basically from the surgery until getting into a daily walking routine right before I had foot done...

165 was my original goal which I hit in Feb. ..I have since then decided to go to 145/150 which I thought I could make by May...our 1 year surgeryversary...probably not...still extremely happy with my results...size 9 Jr jeans , 8/10 misses and small/medium tops...

I feel like I eat too much on some days...like I can eat larger portions...other days I am barely hungry and doesn't take much to fill my pouch...Often wondering if I have stretched things out...my pouch or stoma??

Will be interested in others results these past months..

Congrats again and get well :)

I had my surgery May 29th and am down 152 pounds.  My weight had really slowed down.  My primary care doctor had me start wearing compression hose because my legs swell so badly.  I started wearing them Wednesday and have lost 10 pounds since then!  I don't know if it is the stockings or the timing is a coincidence, but I will take it no matter what.  I have about another 70 pounds until I reach my doctor's goal.  I'm more than half-way.  Whooo-Hoooo.  I am so glad I had RNY and that I have not had major problems.  I've heard some scary stories.

Surgery went well. Doctor reported he was able remove the gallbladder with Lapproscopic tools. Home after the procedure that took just over an hour. Went in at 7:15 am and was wheel-chaired out at roughly 2:00 pm.

Was advised to consider keeping to a bland diet for 7-10 days, increase water intake, and consider using Phillips Milk of Maginessa with meals  for first 5 days post op.

Advised to walk in order to help bowels do their thing and exercise in general.

Anyone else have any helpful  advise to pass along ?

Update.

Spoke to Dr.Dillawn's staff after experiencing a bad night for follow-up. I was told that the Ultra-sound indicated several large gallstones. That being said I head into surgery tomorrow morning.

That being the case does anyone have dietary recommendations they would not mind sharing ?

My family and I have already adopted a low fat dietary habit pattern already. We rarely (Once or twice a month) have any red meats. Rarely do we eat fried anything, and I do not have dairy products due to a lactose condition my son and I share.

Many thanks,

Pete

Topic: Three years post Op and now checking for a gallbladder problem
Greetings all,

I'm three years post op and having a persistantly growning pain in the upper stomach right below my rib cage. Since surgery in March of 2006 have maintained a wieght of 220 - 226. Been able to keep to on track with dietary recommendations, and still find I don't tolerate sugars or fats well.

For the past several months I've been having what I can only describe as a tight contracting pain when I drink or eat something that lasts from 1 hour up to 4 hours afterwards. Also I've had a marked burning/numbing sensation of the tip of my toungue.
On several occasions when eating or drinking I've thrown up several times and had to leave work the pains have gotten so bad. So knowning this was not right I saw my GP. I like my GP but when it comes to dealing with issues that envolve my stomach he tends to shy away sighting my RNY as a component that makes dealing with it problematic. With that he referred me to a Internalest who scheduled me for an Upper GI , and when I showed up for the appointment and he found out I had RNY he said I really prefer not to treat you for this condition. I not wanting to force him into providing treatment that he felt uneasy with and I knowning I'd likely not get the best care said thanks and left his office. So I went back to my surgeon. Immediately he gave me the confident feeling I'd come to the right place.

He informed he that he thought my issues would either be a gallbladder issue (My looked great at the time of the bypass so it was left in ) or perhaps a Ulcer by my pouch near the incession marks.
I walked out with a prescription for Nexum, orders for a full blood panel, and orders for an Ultra-sound of my Upper Right Quadrant.

My insurance is not covering the Nexum so we have found the covered meds and I'll be starting that prescription here later today.

I was wondering if others have had issues like this and thier experiences.

You are doing fantastic!!   I have been noticing many others about our surgery date psot op slowing down...I think it is normal and have some more months for the weight to continue to drop as we continue to use our tool and make the right choices/do what we are supposed to be adhering too.

Thanks for sharing your success and keep us posted  :)
