12 pounds is great!! You still have swelling. It is way to early to tell if you are going to be a slow loser. Slow losers are people like me who have around 100 pounds that is expected to be lost. We are called light weights. Please don't even begin to stress on that. Don't let the scale be a daily thing. Sorry as far as I am concerned still even almost a year out and 103 pounds less the scale can still ruin your day. Water weight, constipation and monthly issues still contribute. Weigh weekly. Once your body recoups some from your surgery you will fall into a pattern. It will be based on how often you walk and your eating patterns and monthly issues. You only need to be concerned on exercising, fluids and proteins. The rest will take care of its self. You will stand a good chance of hitting the well know 3 week stall and 7 week stall. Almost everyone does and most don't lose a thing for at least a week, than start losing fast again till the 7th week. Why...it is becasue your body is playing catch up. Clothing will be the best judge. Very soon you will be changing sizes about every 2 to 3 weeks promise!!
Topic: RE: Surgery was May 14th need help with meds
My surgery was the 19th, My husband crushes my med and I mix with the sf pudding and take a bite and then a sip of water. I have a thing with liquids and throw them up so I have to crush everything. They have me on 4 tubs ex a day for my calcium right now but i did buy calcium chewable tabs and they didn't taste bad.
Topic: loosing slowly...
I had my surgery on May 7th. At my two week check up on the 21st I was down 12 lbs since my pre op weight right before surgery. Is this pretty good, or am I going to be a slow loser?

I had surgery on May 7th--so about 2.5 weeks out as well. I'm doing ok. I guess I am a slow loser. I had my two week appt on the 21st and I was down 12 lbs from my pre-op weight just before surgery. My clothes are looser though and I like that. I have started some soft foods. Doing things really slow and have tolerated everything so far. I am trying to up my protein. I have been getting 56g with my milk with unjury. Also trying to up my fluids. Are any of you finding that the weight is coming off slower than you thought?

Surgery performed 5/12/08. Down 21 pounds so far from date of surgery. Not hungry really, but my mind tells me I want something to eat if I am watching TV and a commercial comes on for something that looks really good and fattening. Still on liquid stuff until I see surgeon on Tuesday, hopefully I will be cleared to go back to work, but hard to tell since I am a lobster fisherman and I have heavy lifting to do. My mind says it is ready to go back to work, but I don't want to over exert myself either. Good luck to the rest of the May-daters and everyone else that is trying to make a smaller you. Take care and keep smiling.....Larry
Topic: RE: Band surgery 5/21 - starting over
hi Tamara,
There is information on the Food and Nutrition forum about what foods are generally allowed at each stage.
http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/nutrition/Nutritional-Guidelines-Following-Weight-Loss-S
urgery.html
I am assuming that you are just excited about your your surgery and not wanting to push your system. I read about what is allowed at the next stage at least twice a day! My weight loss center gave me a notebook when I first started with all sorts of information. In there is info about each stage and a schedule of when you progress to the next stage - always after a visit to either the surgeon or nutritionist. Did they give you any such info?
I've started searching the boards for recipes for my next stage - soft foods, It is exciting!
good luck,
Jayne

You are right, you were asaulted, by hospital staff, that should not have happened, I think you need to contact Lawyers for rights of gastric bypass pts and see if there is anything that they can do!
Topic: RE: I need help
You need a referral from your Dr. but make sure that the Dr. he chooses for you is a good one, and if you know anyone the works in the local hospital they can kinda give u a heads up on which Dr. to choose.

I had my surgery on 5/14/08 and am doing well, except for a wound problem. I too can not get my liquids in, but am doing good with protein. I got a great receipe for adding Isopure to Jello. I also made the custard, which goes down smoothly and isn't a waste of space in my tummy like plain pudding.
I went for my one week check up and have lost 10lbs. I don't know about you, but I am not hungry, at all.
Take Care
Kathy

Hi Kristy
Happy to hear all is going well for you. I had my 2 wk post op with my internist and surgeon and get to go back to work this Mon. I see my dietician beginning of June. So far all is going well.
I have been having a rough week, emotionally, why, I don't know. Maybe it is the post nervous/excitement letdowns? Does that make sense. Of course the weather has grey and raining.
I had an episode of vomiting the other night, but I think I ate too fast or too much. Felt much better afterward.
I am also loosing weight and my clothes either fit better or are looser. Haven't gone down a size yet.
Keep Smiling,
Di
