i don't know what to tell you.... My surgery was 5/16. I left the hospital on 5/18...and went shopping on my way home. 5/19 the day after discharge was the last day I took paid meds, and one day 5 I drove myself to the support group meeting. Maybe i am the exception. the only minor pain I have is if I lie on my side.

Topic: Gall Bladder removal vs RNY
My wife is super excited for her RNY on Wednesday...Now the nerves are setting in..... she wonders if she will hurt as bad as she did after her gall bladder was removed. I told her I didn't think so....she saw a butcher......and Dr. Pupkova is a surgeon. But I figured I would ask...Any of you have both procedures. Was recovery easier for one. I felt great once I got home...In fact, on check out of Barix...we went shopping before going home.... Post gall Bladder, she hurt for 2 weeks. Just figured I would ask.

This happened to me too... for me it was on my left side under my boob...it was a sharp pain that felt like a needle was inside trying to push out... its very painful at times. It also kinda feels similar to a pinched nerve... my pain didn't start untill 3 weeks out and has gone away this past week... I hope it goes away for you soon... Lauren

*raises hand* I have been super cranky off and on since surgery. Things that really should not bug me are driving me nuts! My partner left an empty glass next to the computer the other day...no big deal...it was empty...could easily have just picked it up the next time I went into the kitchen...nope...it sat there and drove me NUTS for a full day before I checked myself and realized that it was just a cup. It's normal, and I hear it gets better as you get farther out. Estrogen is fat soluble and when your estrogen levels change (because you are burning fat at a very fast rate right now and it is releasing all that estrogen into your blood stream, yes, even men!) you tend to get moody and have unexplained swings. This too shall pass! Shells

Danielle, The pain was intense and the more stories I read about how others were feeling wonderful, the more I got discouraged because all I could think about were second thoughts and how much I wondered if this was the right thing to do. I'm a nurse and thought that I was ok to go back to work on 5/31/08, which was only 12 days out.....big mistake. I guess I never thought of the fact that I just had major surgery. The left sided pain does get better. I actually don't hurt all the time now, only sometimes. I am experiencing the pulling pain on the left side of my stomach, but I am 21 days out as of 6/9/08. It "pulls" even when I breath. My doctor says that I can take Tylenol or Ibuprofen as the pills are small enough to swallow. I'm not sure if the pain goes away as I have only experienced the "pulling" x2days now. Have you tried a heating pad? If not, try that. See if it helps a little.

Topic: RE: How are the May Surgery Ppl Doing?
Hi All! My surgery was May 19. I was miserable the first week. I went back to work after 8 days, which was too soon in hindsight. I too have "stalled" the past few days. I am happy to hear that that is common. The past two days I was a bit worried, now I know by the kindness of others sharing that it will pass after my body finishes "starvation mode." I do have hunger pains. I nibble all day. To fufill my 90 grams of protein, I drink this stuff I found online. It's called "proslam 34" by Protica )http://www.protica.com/). It is about 3 ounces of liquid in a plastic vial and has 45 grams of protein with NO fat and NO carbs. I can drink one in the morning and one at night and fufill my protein requirement. I also have been eating cheese cubes, Yoplait Light non-fat yogurt. I have scrambled eggs for breakfast. I was told the new gatorade (R-2?) is low calorie and nutritious, so I bought a case of them. Tried one today, tasted good. I have a small piece of meat for dinner, nothing else. I lost 30 pounds the first 15 days but as I said, have stalled. I have to really struggle to consume two bottles (one liter each) of water daily. The hardest part is NOT drinking with meals. I have paid the painful price of drinkiing with meals. Haven't had too much problem with dumping. I want to wish all May surgery patients bountiful blessings! http://www.obesityhelp.com/member/motivatedone/
