Topic: RE: I have stopped losing after only 6 weeks post op! HELP!
Hey Connie I had surgery the day before you and I am going through the same exact thing. At the beginning of last week I weighed 289, all I needed to do was lose 2 more pounds and I would hit 50 lbs gone total. I thought no prob I'll lose that before the end of the week. Well its nearing the end of this week and not only have I not lost those 2 lbs BUT gained 2 more (I started my period, I think that may have something to do with it). I've stalled for the last week and a half. I stalled at 3 weeks out too but it didn't last long. I just keep telling myself my body has to catch up.

Hi Connie, just thought I'd jump in here, hope y'all don't mind. At 6 wks. you've not stopped losing, your body is just playing catch up. I lost 13lbs. the first week after surgery then not one ounce for the next 5 weeks! It was so frustrating but I just stuck with it and suddenly overnight I had a 5lb. loss, then I steadily lost 1-2lbs. a wee****il I reached my goal...maybe a few bumps in the road but they didn't last long. You've lost 41lbs. in just 6 weeks...that's incredible! Your body needs a little time to catch up to it. You could also be retaining water...even now at 17 months post op I can gain up to 3lbs of water retention. Make sure you're getting at least 64oz. of fluids daily....remember, it doesn't have to be plain water. Any non-carbonated, caffeine free beverage counts as fluuids. If you're already getting 64oz. then bump it up to 80oz if possible. Also do your best to get at least 60g protein, I know its hard at 6 wks. but it can be done. If you're getting 60g already, try to add another shake or supplement and top off around 70g. A tall glass of milk will do it...put a little sugar free chocolate syrup in it to make chocolate milk. Try to exercise the best you can, I understand about pain....I had to stop exercising for nearly 6 months because of back issues, but do the best you can because it will help to kick start your weight loss again. If nothing else, do some strength training with free weights or something similar that doesn't involve your knees. Sounds like you've got calories under control, at 6 weeks I was consuming around 400-500 calories, but follow your surgeon's and nut's guidelines, they're all different. I wouldn't even worry about those 3 lbs....it is virtually impossible for you to gain weight at this point, its most likely water weight. Hang in there, follow your rules, and give it some time. The weight will start coming off again, I promise! Let me know if I can help any other way, feel free to PM if you need me!

Jayne & Tammy, Sounds like we are good poster children (at least initially) for the wonderful benefits of WLS. To my surprise, this board has been a rich source of info because people share so openly about their experiences. Thanks for your responses. I drank my liquids with ice for years. I couldn't drink anything at room temp. My pouch has rejected very cold liquids on a few occasions. This morning I hopped on the scales and had to look twice, the scale actually showed a loss of 3 pounds. I have been at a plateau for 3 weeks. I hope it is the end of this particular stall. I also weigh myself in the afternoon and I seem to weigh my lowest then. So we'll see what it says in the afternoon. I am not convinced the stall is over until I drop a few days in a row. I also opted the RNY surgery to eliminate by diabetes. The past 15 days or so my fasting blood sugar has been averaging about 113, down from over 150 right after surgery, so I see my body is readjusting, but I am relieved to not stick a needle in my stomach twice a day any more like I did for the past five years!

I sometimes don't lose anything one day, then the next the scales will show 2 pounds gone? My surgery was also on May 19th, I walk 3 miles a day , swim 2 hrs., and walk on the gazelle at least 30 mins. each night. I have lost 54lbs as of today. No more sleep apnea, diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. I could go on for awhile I feel GREAT!! I have slowed down a little on losing as well. I do miss being able to drink down a cold glass of tea when I get hot. But other than that, I'm GREAT

Maybe you're just on a stall. I sometimes don't lose anything one day, then the next the scales will show 2 pounds gone? Don't worry, I'm sure you will start back up losing. My surgery was on May 19th, I walk 3 miles a day , swim 2 hrs., and walk on the gazelle at least 30 mins. each night. I have lost 54lbs as of today. Hope this helps.

I had surgery on May 8 and I have lost 41 pounds - but have lost nothing in 14 days! What is going on? I haven't been doing alot of exercise because of my knee pain, but I"m just sitting around on the sofa all day either! I am concentrating on protein and staying hydrated and I take my vitamins and calcium regularly. I know I'm consuming less than 800 calories per day - with a BMI of 54.0 I should be losing at least 4 pounds per week. The scales even went up 3 pounds from the last time I weighed a week ago. I am really concerned about this! Anyone else having this experience? Any advice? Thanks Connie

hi John, My surgery was May 14th. I lost 28 pounds prior to surgery. Since surgery I have lost 22 pounds - but only two in the past two weeks. I also left the hospital with no mre diabetes or high blood pressure medications. If that is all that I get out of this surgery, I will be pleased. I figure that the weight loss is an added benefit, but getting rid of diabetes was my goal. I have dumped once and also vomitted after eating a burger. Dumping was the worst experience - I spent the next day in bed because I felt so awful. I have a hard time drinking enough water. My pouch seems to like liquids at room temperature. Warm is also good. I have to learn to eat more slowly. I get this very uncomfortable feeling when I eat too much or too fast. It seems as if we are in the same place. Jayne

Topic: How much are you exercising?
I am having the WORST time getting into a consistent workout regime. I will just do it whenever I want or feel like it and most importantly have the time. I work FT and have two small children that suck my energy dry! I was hoping by now, down 32# I'd have a bit more energy to exercise. I just have to suck it up and do it b/c I know it will only speed things up and tone things up as well. I'm thinking of joining Curves since its near my office but I hate to spend the money. I have a treadmil at home but NEVER have the time or energy at home. Just curious what the rest of you May-daters are doing at this point for exercise?

Topic: RE: meatball disaster pls help
Hi Deb, The pain in your chest tells me you either ate it too fast or took too big of a bite. The sweats tells me you dumped, probably on the fat in the meatball. I will dump faster on fat than I will on sugar. When you do start solids and meats, make your own meatballs. Use the leanest ground beef you can find, I use extra lean from wal-mart, its 98/2...you can add a little shredded cheese to keep them moist if you want but not too much because cheese has a lot of fat unless you use fat free. Just chalk it up to the first of many lessons you'll learn the hard way, just like the rest of us
